Overview 📨

For: District Admins and School Admins
Platform: Web

Admins can view, monitor, and manage all communication happening in their schools and districts through the Messages section. Each inbox helps you stay on top of conversations and follow up as needed.

🆕 Coming soon 🚀 We’re making it easier for School Admins to monitor and manage flagged messages.

  • A new unread number counter shows how many flagged messages still need review.

  • A “Mark as reviewed” option helps clear items once they’ve been handled.

For District Admins: Flagged messages will still appear in bold and can be marked as reviewed, but the unread counter will not be displayed.

🖼️ Screenshots may look slightly different as TalkingPoints continues to evolve. We’ll keep this guide up to date so you always have the latest information.

For School Admins 🏫

🆕 Coming soon: The Flagged Messages inbox will include a counter showing the number of unread flagged messages and a new “Mark as reviewed” option. 🌟

Admin Inbox

Review messages sent between school admins and families.

All Messages

View every message sent throughout your school community — including messages from teachers, staff, and families.

  • Use dropdown filters to narrow your search by sender, class, or date.

  • Messages appear in bold until opened or marked as reviewed.

Scheduled Messages

Preview any messages that are scheduled to send later.

  • Check for accuracy before messages go out.

  • Edit or cancel a message if needed before it’s sent.

Flagged Messages

Monitor messages that contain inappropriate or flagged language.

  • Use this inbox to follow up with staff or families if needed.

  • Flagged messages appear bold until reviewed.

  • A numeric counter shows the number of unread flagged messages (coming soon).

  • Click the three dots (⋯) next to a message to select Mark as reviewed.

    • This removes bold formatting and decreases the unread counter by one.

    • Only users who have permission to send messages can see “Mark as reviewed.”

  • Note❗️: Flagged Messages inbox can be shared among School Admins who have appropriate access. Messages marked as read or reviewed update for everyone who has access to this inbox.

For District Admins 🏛️

🆕 Coming soon: The Flagged Messages inbox will include a new “Mark as reviewed” option, but will not include an numeric count of all yet unreviewed flagged messages.

All Messages

See all messages across schools in your district.

  • Filter by school, sender, or message type to find what you need.

  • Bold messages indicate unread conversations.

Scheduled Messages

Preview messages scheduled to be sent to families.

  • View timing and message content before delivery.

  • Edit or cancel if adjustments are needed.

Flagged Messages

Flagged Messages

Monitor messages that contain flagged or inappropriate content.

  • Follow up with school leaders or staff as needed.

  • You can still mark messages as reviewed using the three-dot menu (⋯) to remove bold formatting.

  • Note: A flagged message counter is not displayed at the district level at this time.

FAQs 💬

Do flagged messages disappear after viewing them?
No. A flagged message stays bold until you click Mark as reviewed. Viewing alone doesn’t dismiss it.

If one admin marks a message as reviewed, does it dismiss it for everyone?
Yes. When one School Admin marks a message as reviewed, it’s marked as reviewed for all admins who have access to that inbox.

Can I mark a message as unread?
No. Once a message is read or marked as reviewed, it can’t be changed back to unread.

Will I get separate email notifications for flagged messages?
No. There are no extra emails for flagged messages. You’ll only receive an email notification if you:

  1. Have access to the inbox the message was sent to, and

  2. Have email notifications turned on for that inbox.

Do flagged messages roll up to the district level?
Yes. District Admins see flagged messages from all schools, but the unread number counter of Flagged Messages is currently hidden, and will continue to be hidden after the upcoming release.

When does the unread counter start counting messages?
The counter will begin tracking the number of new flagged messages starting after an upcoming release.* It won’t include older flagged messages from before that date.

Admin Tip 🧩

Once a flagged message is marked as reviewed, it’s cleared for all School Admins who share access to that inbox — but it remains visible to District Admins for accountability.

Reviewing flagged messages regularly helps keep communication consistent across schools and the district. Everyone sees the same up-to-date view, which reduces confusion and follow-up questions.
