Audience: District Admins, School Admins
Platform: Web
Important Update: Email Notifications Are Now ON by Default ✉️
Email notifications are now automatically turned ON for all District and School Admins, even if you’ve never logged in to TalkingPoints. This means you’ll receive an email whenever a new message arrives in any inbox you have access to.
You can turn email notifications OFF anytime by going to your profile and unchecking the inboxes you don’t want to receive alerts for.
What Email Notifications Do 💬
Email notifications help you stay up to date on new messages — even when you’re not logged in to TalkingPoints.
You can choose to receive an email for every new message sent to your inboxes, or turn off notifications entirely.
By default, you’ll receive notifications for every incoming message.
Where to Manage Your Email Settings ⚙️
To update your preferences:
Log in to the TalkingPoints for Admins (Web) platform.
Click your Profile in the top-right corner.
Select Email notifications.
Check or uncheck boxes for the inboxes you want to manage.
Each inbox appears only if you have the right permission:
School inbox — visible if you can view school messages ✅
Attendance inbox — visible if you can send and receive attendance messages ✅
Personal inbox — visible if you can send and receive personal messages ✅
From admins — visible for all users ✅
📌 Tip: All inboxes are checked by default, so you’ll get notifications for every message unless you turn them off.
How Notifications Work ✉️
Here’s what happens when your settings are turned on:
You’ll get an email for every new message sent to your selected inboxes.
You’ll get notifications even if you’re not logged in.
You’ll get notifications even if the app or web product is open.
You’ll get notifications even if you’ve never logged in before — in that case, you’ll receive a generic message like:
“Your school is using TalkingPoints to help you stay connected to families. You just received a message from one of your students’ families. Log in to view your message and respond!”Clicking Reply in the email opens the correct message thread in the right inbox.
Each email subject line clearly shows who the message is from, for example:
New message from Enrique Smith’s mother
Shared Inbox Behavior 👥
Both the School and Attendance inboxes are shared — meaning multiple users can access them.
If several users have email notifications turned on for these inboxes, each user will receive an email notification for the same message.
This ensures that everyone with access to that inbox stays informed.
Each inbox type also has its own unique email design so you can easily identify the message source:
School inbox: general family communication
Attendance inbox: attendance-related messages
Personal inbox: private, staff-to-staff conversations
From admins: district or school staff announcements
Message Timing ⏱️
When multiple messages arrive around the same time, TalkingPoints groups them together into a single email.
Emails are sent in five-minute increments, so you may see several messages combined into one email.
Each notification email includes:
The student’s full name
The family contact’s name and relationship
The full text of the message
The time the message was sent
Your school or district logo
Admin Mobile App Users 📱
You’ll no longer be able to change your email notification settings in the TalkingPoints Admin mobile app.
To make changes:
Log in to the TalkingPoints for Admins web product.
Go to Profile > Email notifications.
This keeps all email settings consistent across your organization.
