What Are Staff Announcements?

Staff Announcements help school and district staff share important updates with one another. You’ll get messages from your school leaders, district admins, or co-teachers—all in your TalkingPoints app.

🛑 These are one-way messages, and they are app-only (no SMS or email delivery).


💬 Sending Staff Announcements as a Teacher

If you co-teach a class, any announcement you send will also go to your co-teacher by default.

Example:

  • You and another teacher are both assigned to Class XYZ

  • You send an announcement to Class XYZ

  • Your co-teacher will see the message in three places:

    • 📌 On the Home page, if it’s one of the most recent messages

    • 📬 On the Announcements page under Class XYZ

    • 📚 On the All Announcements view

❗Your co-teacher will not see the message in the student message thread.


📥 Receiving Staff Announcements

You’ll receive announcements from:

  • Your school or district leaders

  • Co-teachers in your shared classes

These show up in:

  • 🟪 School or District inboxes (automatically created when you receive your first message from that level)

  • 📁 Class inboxes, if the announcement was sent to your class or group

🏷️ If the message was sent only to staff, you’ll see a “Staff only” label at the top—both in Web and Mobile—so it’s clear that families and students didn’t receive it.


🔔 Notifications & Badges

You’ll see new message alerts in the same way as other announcements:

Web

  • Number badge next to Announcements

  • Badge + “# NEW” tile on your Home page

  • Badges on class, school, or district inboxes with unread messages

Mobile

  • Badge on the Announcements tab

  • “NEW” tag on unread messages

  • Badges inside the message list

✅ Badges clear automatically once you view the message.


🛠 Adjust Your Notification Settings

You can control badge and push notifications for announcements without affecting your family message settings.

On Web:

  • Go to Announcements > ⋯ (3 dots)

  • Toggle badges and email notifications on/off

On Mobile:

  • Go to Settings > Notifications & Auto-Reply

  • Manage:

    • Push notifications for staff announcements

    • Badge settings for admin announcements

❗ Badges for family messages can’t be turned off.
