Send and receive text messages with clients directly in your VSCO Workspace by setting up and connecting a Quo (formerly OpenPhone) account.
Note: Quo only allows the creation of U.S. & Canada numbers at this time. We are exploring integration options that include global phone number support and group messaging!
Getting Set Up on Quo
1. Create a Quo Account
Navigate to the Quo website.
Click “Try for Free” to create your account.
Sign up using your email address or Google account.
Choose the Starter or Business plan (the Starter plan is sufficient for most needing just one number). All accounts come with a free 7 day trial.
When using the Quo API, each "segment" (up to 160 standard characters) is $0.01 in credit, charged by Quo. For pricing details using the Quo API for texting, see their full explanation here.
2. Select a New Business Phone Number
Once your account is created, Quo will prompt you to choose a new number. You can search by area code or city (e.g., “415” for San Francisco), or browse for a number that is easy to remember or brand-aligned. If you already have a business number you’d like to use see the below section on how to port that number.
Once you find a number you’d like to use, confirm and assign the number to your workspace within Quo.
3. Set Up Your Quo Workspace
Name your workspace (e.g., “[Your Company Name]”). Add a profile photo, business hours, or team members (optional).
4. Customize Your Phone Settings
In the Quo dashboard:
Set a voicemail greeting.
Configure call forwarding if needed.
Enable notifications (email or mobile app).
Add business hours and an auto-reply message for when you’re unavailable.
You can import a set of contacts by CSV (like from your existing VSCO Workspace address book), or sync with Google Contacts:
5. Download the Mobile or Desktop App
The Quo app is available for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows. You can send and receive messages and calls from any device where you have access to Quo, for new text notifications on your device and easy communication with clients and team members on the go!
6. Register Your Number (Required for U.S. Numbers)
U.S. carrier registration (also referred to as A2P 10DLC) is required for all businesses sending text messages to U.S. phone numbers through Quo. This registration improves message deliverability and prevents carrier filtering by verifying your business and messaging use case.
For step-by-step instructions on the registration process, once your number is secured, you can find the tutorial on the Quo site here.
Port an Existing Number
If you'd rather use a current business number you already have with a service like Xfinity, AT&T, Verizon, Google Voice or T-Mobile, you can do that by following the porting instructions provided by OpenPhone.
Go to Settings › Phone Numbers in Quo and follow the prompts to port your number from another carrier.
Note: This process can take a few days and requires verification.
Connecting Quo with VSCO Workspace
Connecting Quo with your VSCO Workspace account will take just minutes.
Once your new number is ready, you’ll go to your API settings in Quo to generate an API key.
In your Workspace account, navigate to Settings › Text Settings and select the New Integration button.
Select Connect Quo and paste your API Key where prompted to connect with your Quo account.
Upon saving, you will see the connected number listed in your Text Messaging Providers box here:
In your Text Settings you can also set which integrated phone number is the default sender for each of your Workspace brands. This number will be used for any automated text messages that go out.
You're all set! 🎉
