Student credits can be used in two ways. This article explains how to do this manually.

Using Credits Manually
When you wish to pay for the student, it's possible to add the student credit against any fees that need to be paid. When creating the receipt, if the student has a credit on their account, there will be an option to add credit to the receipt. Click on this option to see the student's credit and add the credit amount. The amount added cannot be greater than the payment items or the credit on the student profile.
When the receipt is generated, you'll notice that the credit has been added against the amount due and a reduced amount will be paid.
If you jump back to the student profile now, you'll notice that the credit has been updated to show the amount that has been used.
