Mobile push notifications help students, related contacts, teachers, and staff stay updated about important events. This guide explains how push notifications work and how to manage the settings for your school.

To receive push notifications, users must meet two requirements:

  1. Use the latest version of the Teach ’n Go mobile app.

    • Share your app download links with your school community.

  2. Allow notification permissions on their device.

    • Without permission, push notifications will not appear.

If both conditions are met, users will receive notifications as soon as they are sent.

What notifications are supported?

Teach ’n Go can send push notifications for key events such as:

  • Announcements

  • Group messages

  • Class updates (e.g., cancellations or changes)

  • Notes or attachments are shared

  • Assignment updates

  • Portal alerts

Setting up push notifications for your school

1. Go to notification settings

  1. Go to the school settings page.

  2. Select the mobile push notifications tab to view the options.

2. Choose which notifications to enable

You can control which types of notifications are sent out by your school.

  • Push notification language can be either in English or Spanish. (We can add more by request)

  • The notifications are split into two groups:

    • students and related contacts

    • admin, teachers and staff

  • Select which notifications to activate for each group

  • Only enabled notifications will trigger push alerts on users’ devices.

3. Save your changes

Click Save to apply your notification settings. All future alerts will follow these rules.

How users receive notifications

Once enabled:

  • Notifications appear on the user’s device lock screen or notification panel.

  • Tapping the notification opens the relevant page in the mobile app.

  • Users also see the same messages or updates inside their portal dashboard.

If a user is not receiving notifications, ask them to:

  • Check they are logged into the app.

  • Update to the latest app version.

  • Confirm permissions are enabled in their device settings.

Troubleshooting

User says they aren’t receiving notifications:

  • Ensure the app is updated to the latest version.

  • Confirm the school has enabled the notification type in Settings.

  • Ask the user to check device notification permissions.

  • Verify the user is linked to the event (e.g., class, announcement, assignment).

Notifications delayed:

  • Some devices temporarily pause notifications in low-power or battery-saver modes.

Summary / next steps

Mobile push notifications help keep your school community informed in real time. Make sure your notification settings match what your school wants to communicate and remind users to enable permissions.
