You can allow students to switch lessons from one class to another if they cannot attend a lesson. Classes that can be swapped should be part of the same subject or level group.

Activation

Navigate to the student's profile and select edit student from the more menu at the top right of the profile. At the bottom of the edit page, there is a checkbox to allow the substitute lesson feature for this student.

Now, there are two ways to substitute lessons:

  1. Student or Related Contacts substituting lessons

  2. Admins substituting lessons

Please read on to learn how to use both options.

Student or Related Contacts Substituting Lessons

Students with this feature turned on will now have an extra option to 'Substitute Lesson' on the lesson card. The option will only show for future lessons, not past lessons.

When they click this, a pop-up will appear where they are given a choice of lessons from other classes with the same class subject and level, so your classes must be categorised correctly to allow your students to select correctly and to avoid students enrolling in non-relevant courses.

They can enrol themselves as a ‘substitute’ from the list of available lessons.

If the student confirms the change:

  • The student will be automatically marked as excused from the existing lesson.

  • Admin and teacher are notified of the change through dashboard notification.

  • The student will appear in the new lesson as a Substitute.

Admins Substituting Lessons

If the student has the substitute lesson setting turned on - future lessons lesson card, the student will have an extra option to 'Substitute lesson'. The option will only show on future lessons and not on past lessons.

The admins can select from the possible choice of lessons from other classes with the same class subject and level, so please ensure classes are categorised correctly to allow admins to select the correct lessons.
