Before we begin, do you know how Templi works? This basic guide will give you all the context you need!

In Templi, Rules are one of the most important AI tools for building your templates.

You’re probably already familiar with Prompts—if not, check out our Prompt Guide here. Prompts are instructions that tell Templi to write words, phrases, or paragraphs.

Rules, on the other hand, serve a different purpose: they control whether a piece of content (words, phrases, paragraphs, or even entire sections) should be hidden or displayed based on specific conditions.

Let’s dive in!

Understanding Hide Rules

You can recognize a Hide Rule in your template by the red-highlighted box, like this:

Or like this:

Hide Rules work based on a condition you set. If the condition is met, Templi will hide the selected content. If not, it will remain visible.

Now, let's see how to create a Hide Rule in Templi.

How to Create a Hide Rule

Creating a Hide Rule is simple:

  1. Highlight the word, phrase, or paragraph you want to hide.

  2. Click "Hide when..."

  3. Enter the condition in the Create a Hide Rule Panel: This determines when the content should be hidden.

  4. Click Save Rule.

Like this:

And that's it!

From now on, whenever you use this template, Templi will automatically decide whether to hide or display the red-highlighted content based on the condition you set.

Rule Settings

Editing or deleting a rule in Templi is quick and easy.

Editing a Rule

To edit a rule:

  1. Click on the rule in your template.

  2. Select "Edit Rule" to open the rule settings panel.

  3. Modify the condition as needed.

Like this:

Deleting a Rule

To delete a rule:

  1. Click on the rule in your template.

  2. Click "Delete Rule".

  3. And that’s it—the rule is removed!

Like this:

As you can see, Rules in Templi are simple and intuitive to use.

Combining Rules and Prompts

Can you combine Rules and Prompts in Templi?

Yes, you can!

Sometimes, the content you want to hide includes one or more Prompts. In that case, you can apply a Hide Rule to the entire section while still using Prompts inside it.

Here’s an example of a Rule and Prompt combined:

In this case, we have a section containing two prompts, and a Hide Rule applied to the entire section.

Example: Two prompts and one hide-rule

To achieve this, follow these steps:

  1. Create the two prompts inside your template.

  2. Apply a Hide Rule to the entire section.

Understanding Hierarchy

When you combine different AI tools in Templi, they follow a hierarchy:

The hierarchy helps you understand which element you are editing—for example, whether you’re modifying a Prompt or adjusting a Rule that applies to a larger section.

By understanding this structure, you can combine Rules and Prompts effectively to create dynamic, AI-powered templates.
