Before we begin, do you know how Templi works? This basic guide will give you all the context you need!

How to Create Templates in Templi

Templates are at the heart of Templi's report-writing functionality. A well-designed template can save you hundreds—if not thousands—of hours each year. Built specifically for the wealth management industry, Templi is an essential tool for Paraplanners and Financial Advisors.

Think of Templi templates as similar to Word templates: a single template can serve multiple clients. The key difference? Templi generates the report for you.

In this guide, I'll walk you through creating your first template and unlocking the full potential of Templi.

Note: You don't have to create a template every time you want to write a report. You will be able to use the same template for many different clients.

What Can You Achieve with a Templi Template?

Here’s a quick overview of what’s possible:

  • Hide paragraphs based on specific information.

  • Write multiple paragraphs within one template.

  • Create tables that automatically calculate values for you.

  • Insert specific client information seamlessly.

  • And much more!

Key Tools to Master

To create powerful templates, you’ll need to understand these three essential tools:

  1. Prompts: Provide specific instructions to the AI (e.g., "Insert the client’s objectives" or "Display today’s date").

  2. Rules: Show or hide paragraphs, titles, or tables based on specific conditions (e.g., "If the client doesn’t have an ISA, hide the paragraph about ISAs").

  3. AI Tables: Build tables that Templi can populate for you automatically (e.g., a table summarising each wrapper, valuations, or charges).

  4. Dropdowns: Build a dropdown with all the options Templi can chose from. You can add inline dropdowns (for just a couple of words) or Section dropdowns.

Once you’re familiar with these tools, you’ll be able to design templates for any scenario.

Let’s Start with Prompts

Prompts are instructions embedded within your template, guiding Templi on what to do. Think of them as the bridge between your intent and the AI’s output.

In Templi, prompts are highlighted in light purple, making them easy to spot:

How to Create a Prompt

Creating a prompt is straightforward:

  1. Highlight the text you want to use as a prompt.

  2. Click on "Convert to prompt" or use a shortcut:

    • CMD + Enter (Mac)

    • CTRL + Enter (PC)

That’s it—your prompt is ready!

Using Examples

One thing you can do is to use examples in your prompts.

"Examples" are literally examples of a potential answer, the way you would like Templi to write them. Examples are not:

  1. New conditions for Templi to decide.

  2. Information about the Template or it's instructions.

To add examples just click the prompt and click on settings.

Then, click on "Examples" and add one example.

And that's it.

Best Practices for Writing Prompts

Usually a short instruction do the job. Instructions like "Insert the client's name", "insert the client's objectives" or "insert today's date" are totally fine.

But sometimes we want Templi to do more complex things, like calculating charges depending on certain conditions, for those cases you can use any prompt engineering framework, such as CARE:

  • Context: Provide necessary background or details.

  • Action: Specify the task you want the AI to perform.

  • Result: Define the outcome you expect.

  • Example: Include examples to clarify your expectations.

Following CARE ensures that Templi delivers precisely what you need.

How to Use Rules

Sometimes, you’ll want Templi to show or hide specific content based on certain conditions. That’s where Rules come in.

Rules allow you to dynamically adjust your templates, ensuring your reports are always relevant to the client’s specific situation.

How to Identify Rules

In your template, rules appear as grey text, indicating that a condition is applied to that section.

To manage rules, use the Rules Panel on the left side of the screen. This panel gives you an overview of all the rules applied to the current template.

How to Create a Rule

Creating a rule is quick and straightforward:

  1. Highlight the content (e.g., a paragraph, title, or table) you want to apply a rule to.

  2. Click the “Hide When” button located next to “Convert to prompt.”

  3. In the Rules Panel, input the Instruction—Define when the content should be shown or hidden.

  4. Save—and it’s ready to go!

Like this:

Tips for Effective Rules

Providing clear context and examples in the instruction field helps Templi interpret the rule correctly. For example:

  • Example Instruction: "Hide this paragraph if the client doesn’t have an ISA."

  • With Context: "When the client’s financial data does not include an ISA, hide this section explaining ISA benefits."

The more detail you provide, the better Templi can execute your rules.

Learn how to use AI Tables

AI Tables are one of Templi’s most powerful features. These tables, enhanced with AI capabilities, can save you hours by automating calculations, summarising data, and even generating projections.

Whether you’re calculating charges, valuing assets, or presenting projections, AI Tables streamline the process.

How to Identify AI Tables

AI Tables are marked with the "AI Table" label at the top-left corner, making them easy to spot.

How to Create an AI Table

Here’s how to set one up:

  1. Insert a table into your template.

  2. Click the first box in the table, labeled “Convert to AI Table.”

  3. In the AI Table Panel, input:

    • Instruction: Explain the purpose of the table and what it should do.

    • Label: Give the table a descriptive name.

  4. Save your AI Table—and it’s ready to populate data intelligently!

Best Practices for AI Tables

Just like rules, clear instructions are essential. Use the instruction field to:

  • Explain the table’s purpose.

  • Specify any calculations Templi needs to perform.

  • Provide examples of the desired format or output.

For instance:

  • Example Instruction: “Summarise all wrappers and valuations. Add a column for fees and calculate the total.”

  • With Calculations: “For each row, calculate the total by multiplying the ‘Units Held’ by the ‘Price per Unit.’ Provide a summary total at the bottom.”

The more context you include, the more precise and accurate your AI Table will be.

By mastering all the AI tools, you’ll unlock Templi’s full potential, enabling you to create dynamic, automated, and highly efficient templates.
