Before we begin, do you know how Templi works? This basic guide will give you all the context you need!

In this guide, I’ll show you how to get the most out of Dropdowns, one of the most versatile yet simple AI tools in Templi.

If you’re already familiar with Prompts, Rules, and AI Tables, Dropdowns offer yet another way to customize your Templates and maximize their accuracy.

What Are Dropdowns?

You’ve seen dropdowns everywhere—on websites, apps, and online forms. The concept is simple: you click a dropdown and select the right option.

Templi works the same way when writing reports. You define a set of options, and Templi automatically selects the most appropriate one based on the context.

Instead of letting Templi generate text freely, Dropdowns allow you to predefine all possible options, ensuring greater control and consistency in your reports.

In Templi, Dropdowns are highlighted in yellow, like this:

Templi offers two types of Dropdowns. Let’s take a closer look.

Types of Dropdowns

The two types of Dropdowns available in Templi are:

  1. Inline Dropdown (simply called “Dropdown” in Templi)

  2. Section Dropdown

The names are self-explanatory:

  • Inline Dropdowns are used for smaller text elements, such as a word or phrase.

  • Section Dropdowns allow you to replace entire paragraphs or sections of your report.

Here’s an example of each:

The concept is easy to grasp, and creating them is just as simple. Let’s walk through the process.

How to Create a Dropdown

Creating a dropdown is straightforward:

  1. Go to Insert

  2. Select Dropdown or Dropdown Section

  3. Fill in the options one by one

  4. Add AI context (so Templi knows when to use each option)

Here’s an example of both types of Dropdowns:

How to add AI Context to each option:

Remember: Adding context will help Templi to decide which is the best option to chose.

This works for both: Inline and Section dropdowns.

Examples of AI Context:

  • "Select this answer if the client is 60 years old or older."

  • "Select this answer if the client has a Will."

  • "Select this answer if the client agrees to the advisor’s conditions without any exceptions."

  • "Select this answer if the client has a child."

Remember, this is only to help Templi make a decision, so a simple phrase will do the job.

Mixing Dropdowns with Prompts and Rules

You're probably already thinking about this possibility, and the answer is yes—you can combine AI tools in Templi.

Let’s look at an example...

Imagine you have different options for the same section, and you want to add prompts inside the dropdown:

Simply create your dropdown, add the text and then create the prompts.
