Present to Clients and Hiring Managers

Use the “View as Hiring Manager” feature to preview and share externally

Written by Kelsey Chan

Thrive’s "View as Hiring Manager" feature automatically hides information that is not relevant or appropriate for client or hiring manager visibility. It is designed to provide transparency and control over what information is shared with clients. It also reduces reporting time by allowing users the option to share directly from Thrive instead of exporting and reformatting data.

Read on to learn more about the Hiring Manager View and how to access it.

What Information Gets Presented to Hiring Managers?

Hiring Managers want to know how many candidates are in process, key details about each candidate’s background and experience, and the level of engagement the team has had with each candidate. We designed the Hiring Manager View to tackle each of these components.

Overview

Hiring Managers who have been invited to a project will see the project name at the top left of the screen, which typically contains the name of the role (e.g. Chief Product Officer), unless it is a confidential search with a code name. This section also displays the number of days that a project has been open and the associated company.

The initials of the team members assigned to that search are visible to the right, followed by a search bar and filter icon to quickly surface candidates.

Beneath the search bar, clients will see the search stages displayed, each containing a number indicating the total candidates currently in that stage. When clients click on different stages, the screen automatically scrolls to the candidates assigned to that stage.

Candidate Cards

The candidate card view provides a snapshot of each candidate within the project, enabling clients or hiring managers to quickly gain insight into their background while scrolling down the list or clicking into different stages.

Candidate cards display the following information:

  • Candidate name

  • Primary title

  • Primary company

  • Primary location

  • Candidate’s contact information, including Linkedin profile, email(s), and phone number(s)

  • Preview of the most recent note added about the candidate (notes must be explicitly shared to be viewable by hiring managers)

    • Date of the most recent note added about the candidate

  • Stage-specific information

    • Recent interviews with the candidate, including the date

  • Total number of scorecards submitted for the candidate

    • Average score of all submitted scorecards

  • Offer and candidate start dates

Quick Actions

On the candidate cards, clients can take the following quick actions:

  • Add a note about the candidate using the notepad icon in the top right corner of the card

  • Prioritize or deprioritize candidates using the thumbs up/down icons near the top right corner of the card

Hide or unhide candidates from hiring managers

You control which candidates hiring managers can see — without digging through menus.

On each candidate card, use the eye icon to:

  • Hide a candidate so they are not visible to hiring managers or clients

  • Unhide a candidate to make them visible again

The icon shows at a glance who is currently visible to external stakeholders, so you can manage client-facing visibility in one click from the project board.

Tip: Use View as Hiring Manager after hiding candidates to confirm the client view matches what you intend to share.

What is Hidden in the Hiring Manager View?

In the hiring manager or client view, certain information is automatically hidden, including:

  1. Demographic Information: Any information voluntarily shared by the candidate, including gender, disability and veteran status, and race or ethnicity, is hidden

  2. Job Preferences: Candidates’ stated availability, maximum commute time, location, current level, and other data are not visible in this view

  3. Data Privacy: GDPR status is hidden

  4. Hidden Custom Fields: Custom field values that have been intentionally turned off in order not to be visible are unavailable in the Hiring Manager view

  5. Outreaches: Outreaches encompass all communication with candidates for non-interview event types (phone calls, InMail, email). This is considered internal information for recruiters to log the method, date, and summary of their communications, as well as candidate responses. Outreaches are hidden in the Hiring Manager view to ensure search teams feel comfortable putting in search details in Thrive without fear of leaking sensitive information.

  6. Private Notes: Notes that are not published by individual users will not appear in the Hiring Manager view

  7. Private Scorecards: Scorecards that are not published by individual users will not appear in the Hiring Manager view

  8. Private Compensation Information: For projects where estimated compensation and offer compensation visibility is disabled, these fields are unavailable to hiring managers

  9. Tasks: Any actions related to candidates that have been assigned to internal team members is not visible to hiring managers

  10. Off-Limits Status: Hiring managers do not see the icons associated with off-limits and therefore they cannot click on them to review the reasons given

  11. Candidate Owner: Hiring managers do not see the candidate owners (internal team members who added the candidate to the project or own the relationship)

  12. Project data

    1. Analytics

  13. References and referrals you add to candidate profiles are NOT visible to clients in the Hiring Manager view.

  14. Candidate Tags: Any color-coded candidate tags applied by the internal team for workflow management are automatically hidden from the Hiring Manager view.

  15. Person Activities: The chronological timeline of activities (notes, project movements, etc.) on a candidate's side panel is not visible to hiring managers.

Additionally, in the Hiring Manager view, links to company pages are unsynced within the experience section and therefore not clickable in the same way they are for regular users.

How To Access the Hiring Manager View

(Project > More Actions ⋮ > View As Hiring Manager)

  1. Locate the project you want to preview from the Hub (homepage) or the Projects section of Thrive

  2. Click into the project (note: If you already have the project open with the side panel displayed, click the X icon to exit the side panel)

  3. Locate the More Actions ⋮ button (three dots) in the upper right corner

  4. Select View as Hiring Manager from the dropdown

When the preview launches, a yellow banner appears at the top of the page with the message, “You are previewing this project as a hiring manager.”

Invite Hiring Managers to a Project

  1. On the project page, click on the hyperlinked project name (e.g. CFO) at the top left–this opens the project side panel where you can access Team Members

  2. Navigate to the Other tab

  3. Select Team from the dropdown

  4. Click the person-mail icon to the left of the + sign to invite a client or hiring manager

  5. Enter the first and last name in addition to the email address (note: if the individual has already been added as a user, they will populate as you type the first name. If not, simply fill in these details for new users).

  6. Optional: Invite multiple clients or hiring managers at once by clicking the + Add Team Member button beneath the first invitee

  7. Click Invite

Manage or Edit Hiring Manager Project Access

If needed, project team members can manage team member access after they’ve sent out invites to hiring managers or clients. Within the Team tab on the project side panel, they can see whether someone is internal or external, as well as their assigned role in Thrive.

Clicking on the More Actions ⋮icon (three dots) for clients and hiring managers provides the following options:

  • Edit: Allows users to edit first name, last name, or change or update email address

  • Remove: Allows users to remove an external user from the project, revoking access

For external users who have an Invited button next to their name, a third “Resend Invite” option is also available, as they have not yet logged in to Thrive.
