Contact and Company Tags
Contact and Company tags categorize records within your broader database and make it easier to filter and search across people and organizations.
Common tag types include:
Experience
Function
Funding Round (Company tag only)
Industry
Revenue Scale
Sector
Skill
Other
People vs. Company Tags
Some tags are primarily associated with companies, such as Revenue Scale and Headcount Scale.
These tags can still be useful when searching for people, because they reflect the environments those individuals have worked in.
Example searches might include:
CEOs who have scaled a company to $500M in revenue
Executives who have led teams of 1,000+ employees
Filtering with Tags
Tags allow you to quickly narrow search results.
On the Person Index or Company Index, use the filter icon to select one or more tags.
This instantly refines your list of people or companies to the most relevant records.
Available Tag Filtering Options
Person Index: Skill, Function, Sector, Industry, Experience, Other
Company Index: Sector, Industry, Function, Revenue Range, Funding Round, Other
Candidate Tags (Project Workflow)
Candidate Tags are used to organize and manage candidates within a specific project. They help search teams track progress, categorize candidates, and structure project workflows.
Key characteristics of Candidate Tags:
Project-specific usage
Candidate tags are applied to candidates within a project to help manage workflow stages and internal organization.
Admin-controlled
Candidate tags are predefined and color-coded.
They cannot be created by recruiters on a per-project basis.
Universally available
Tags are managed globally by Admins.
Once created, they appear as options across all projects for all internal users.
Project filtering
Within a project's Kanban board or list view, you can filter candidates by specific Candidate Tags to focus on certain groups.
Bulk tagging
Multiple candidates can be selected at once to add or remove tags in bulk.
Internal visibility only
Candidate tags are strictly for internal workflow management.
They are hidden from “View as Hiring Manager” mode and are never visible to external clients.
Tags in Strategic Workflows (Market Maps and Scorecards)
Certain tags are required for Thrive’s automated research and evaluation tools.
Market Maps
When creating a Market Map, you must define the map using Function tags (for example: Marketing, Sales, Finance).
These tags, combined with seniority levels, allow Thrive to automatically surface relevant candidates from your database.
Market Map results can also be refined using company attributes such as Sector tags.
Scorecards
Function tags are also used in Scorecard templates.
Admin-created scorecards are typically tagged by function, making it easy for teams to locate and apply the correct assessment template when evaluating candidates.
Tagging FAQ
What is the difference between "Candidate Tags" and "Tags"?
“Tags” are database tags on people and companies (like skills, experience, industry, sector, revenue scale) that help you filter and search across your whole database.
“Candidate Tags” are project workflow tags used inside projects to organize candidates (stages, internal tracking). They’re pre-defined, color-coded, admin-controlled, and internal only - they’re hidden from clients and the “View as Hiring Manager” view.
Can I create different categories of "Tags" beyond what's already in Thrive (Experience, Function, Funding Round, Industry, Other, Revenue Scale, Sector, and Skills)?
No, the tag categories or groups are fixed in Thrive, so you can’t create your own or rename those sections. Admins are able to create, edit, and delete individual tags within the existing groups, but the names of tag groups aren’t customizable.
Can candidate tags be used across all projects or are they project specific?
Candidate tags are global, which means they can be used across all projects. There are no project-specific candidate tags. If you create a candidate tag in the Admin section, it will be available in all projects in Thrive.
