Send a Text Message
When collecting customer information, it's important to comply with all privacy, regulatory, and phone carrier requirements. Toast expects all merchants to comply with all applicable federal, state, provincial, local, and foreign laws, rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry best practices. As such, Toast requires that its merchants train all staff to obtain appropriate customer consent when collecting a phone number for the purposes of sending order-ready messaging. The below text must be read before any guest provides a phone number for the purposes of order status messages powered by Toast: |
In the Orders Hub on your POS, when an order moves from the Active tab to the Order ready tab, a text message is sent to the guest to notify them that their order is ready. Learn more about the Orders Hub with this guide.
Orders in the Active tab are being prepared by your kitchen. When an order is marked as Order Ready on the Orders Hub screen, it moves over to the Order ready tab and triggers the text message.
The text message is sent to the phone number associated with the order, notifying them that the order is ready for pickup. Note the sample text messages below:
If an order is updated and moved back to the Active tab for fulfillment, once it gets marked again as Order Ready, another text message is sent to the guest as a result.
Mark a KDS-Fulfilled Order as "Order Ready"
You can choose to have orders fulfilled by the Kitchen Display System (KDS) automatically marked as Order Ready in Orders Hub.
Orders are marked as Order Ready in Orders Hub when the entire order is fulfilled at the expediter level on an expediter KDS device. If Two-Level Fulfillment is enabled, this happens on the KDS device set as the second expediter KDS device. |
To enable this KDS configuration:
Navigate in Toast Web to Takeout & delivery > Orders Hub > Kitchen Display System (KDS), and then toggle the setting from Off to On.
Select the Save button and then the Publish all changes button. The Confirm Publish dialog box will appear.
Select the Publish button to publish your changes or the Cancel button to cancel the dialog box.
If you choose not to enable this setting, you will have to manually select the Order Ready button when viewing an order in your POS's Orders Hub in order to mark an order as ready for pickup by a guest or delivery driver.
NEW! Your Orders Hub - Kitchen Display System (KDS) configuration now includes DoorDash and Uber Eats orders. If you toggle the above setting On, DoorDash and Uber Eats orders will be automatically marked as Order Ready once fulfilled by the kitchen, and will "tell" DoorDash and Uber Eats these orders are ready, accordingly. If you leave the toggle at its default setting of Off, you will see DoorDash and Uber Eats orders populate in your POS's Active tab that you will need to manually mark as Order Ready when appropriate.
