Check Your Card Reader's Firmware Version

Written by Agent Support Bot

Question

How can I tell which firmware version is used on the card reader on my Toast Tap™ or Toast Go® 2?

Answer

For legacy Toast Tap™ or Toast Go® 2:

Note: The Card Reader Support app is only available for legacy Toast Tap™ and Toast Go® 2 readers. If you have a TDA300 or TOC300 reader, you won't see this app. Use the Card Reader Test App steps below instead.

  1. Select the circle icon on the bottom on your device screen.

  2. Select Card Reader Support to open the app.

  3. Under the header called USB Status: Connected, make sure your card reader is showing firmware version 1.02.03.11 or 1.02.03.12. If either version is showing up for this specific device, it means the card reader is up to date and can continue taking payments as usual.

For TDA300 or TOC300:

  1. Navigate to Toast POS Setup > Device Setup > Card Reader Test App.

  2. The app displays Model name | Serial # | Firmware version together in one readout. Current firmware should end in .16 or .17 (for example, "IMS_Toast MOBY_EM3 17.20.16"). If your version ends in .16 or .17, your card reader is up to date and can continue taking payments as usual.

If your card reader firmware is out of date

If your firmware version doesn't match the versions listed above, update the card reader from Device Setup:

  1. Make sure the card reader is plugged directly into a USB port on your terminal (not a USB hub) and that the terminal is connected to the internet.

  2. Navigate to Toast POS Setup > Device Setup.

  3. Scroll to the Card Readers section and select your card reader.

  4. Select Card Reader Updates, then select Check for updates.

  5. If an update is available, select Install Update. The update normally takes a few minutes.

  6. When the update finishes, check your firmware version again using the steps above.

If the update doesn't install or the version still doesn't match, contact Toast Customer Care with your reader model and serial number.
