Before you begin
Applies to: Toast Flex terminal, Toast Go® 2 handheld, Toast Go® 3 handheld, Elo V1 terminal, Elo V2/V3 terminal, Toast-managed network
Permissions needed:
Physical access to the affected device
Toast Web login (only needed to look up your Wi-Fi password)
What you'll accomplish: Remove saved non-Toast Wi-Fi networks so your device stays on the secure Toast network and stops dropping offline during service.
Your Toast device can save Wi-Fi networks it has connected to in the past. When a non-Toast network is saved, the device may roam to it and lose its connection to Toast. For example, a Toast Go® handheld carried to a patio may grab a stronger signal from the building next door, which pauses payments. Forgetting every network that does not belong to Toast keeps the device on the secure Toast network, which ends in _SECURE or _TOAST.
If you need your Toast Wi-Fi password to reconnect, see Locate Your Toast Wi-Fi Password.
Note: Not all Toast-managed networks have a _SECURE network. Some locations only have the _TOAST network available. |

Reconnect to the secure Toast network
If your device disconnects from the network ending in _TOAST and will not reconnect, use these steps.
On the device, navigate to your Wi-Fi settings using the steps for your device model above.
Select and hold the network ending in _TOAST. This network may appear as [RESTAURANT-NAME]_TOAST.
When prompted, select Forget Network.
Select the network ending in _SECURE to connect the device. This network may appear as [RESTAURANT-NAME]_SECURE. (Some Toast networks do not have a _SECURE wifi network. This is not a problem. Check Toast account > Wi-Fi configuration, and if it shows a "_TOAST", connect to that, instead of _SECURE)
Open the Toast POS app and enter your passcode on the passcode screen. The device reconnects to the secure Toast network on its own.
If the device is on _SECURE and won't move to _TOAST, after logging in, press the 3-dots in the top right corner of the screen. Press Connect to PCI network.
Expected outcome: The device returns to the _TOAST network and the offline banner clears.
If your device still won't connect after forgetting
If you have forgotten the non-Toast networks, reconnected, and the device still shows an error such as "Obtaining IP address" or will not get past the secure network, the device has Wi-Fi power but no path to the internet. This usually points to the wireless access point or router rather than the device.
If only one device is affected, confirm a wireless access point near it is online and that you are in range, then try again.
If your handheld keeps disconnecting or won't connect across the location, see Handhelds Not Connecting to Secure Network.
If every handheld and terminal is offline at once, the issue is upstream of any single device. See Outages and Disruptions: Troubleshoot Internet or Network Connection Issues.
If your restaurant runs its own network, see Handheld Device Is Not Connecting to Internet (Self-Managed Network).
If the device still won't connect after these checks, contact Toast Customer Care.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop my Toast device from connecting to the wrong Wi-Fi network?
To stop your Toast device from connecting to the wrong Wi-Fi network, forget every saved network that does not end in _SECURE or _TOAST, using the steps for your device model above. On a Toast Flex terminal or Toast Go® handheld, also set Open network notification to Off so staff are not prompted to switch networks during service.
Also asked as:
How do I keep my Toast device from jumping to another network?
My device connects to the wrong Wi-Fi, how do I fix it?
How do I remove the Wi-Fi configuration on my Toast device?
My handheld keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi during service. How do I fix it?
If your handheld keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi during service, it is most likely roaming to a saved non-Toast network or moving out of range of a wireless access point. Forget every non-Toast network the handheld has saved, using the steps above, so only the secure Toast network remains. If it keeps dropping after that, see Handhelds Not Connecting to Secure Network.
Also asked as:
Why does my Toast handheld keep losing Wi-Fi?
My Toast Go keeps going offline during service.
My tablet disconnects from Wi-Fi every time I log in.
My device won't reconnect to the Toast network after I forgot the network. What do I do?
If your device won't reconnect to the Toast network after you forgot the network, connect to the network ending in _SECURE, then open the Toast POS app and log in so the device can migrate back to the _TOAST network on its own. If the device shows "Obtaining IP address" or still won't connect, the wireless access point or router is the likely cause rather than the device. See Handhelds Not Connecting to Secure Network.
Also asked as:
How do I reconnect my Toast to Wi-Fi?
My device won't get back on the Toast network.
How do I get my handheld back online?
Where do I find my Toast Wi-Fi password?
Your Toast Wi-Fi password is stored in Toast Web, not on the device. Navigate to Toast account > Privacy Compliance > Wi-Fi configuration and select the visibility/eye icon to reveal the password. For full details, see Locate Your Toast Wi-Fi Password.
Also asked as:
What is my Toast Wi-Fi password?
Where is the password for my handheld Wi-Fi?
How do I find the _Toast network password?
I have my own self-managed network. How do I keep my Toast device on it?
If you have your own self-managed network, forget any leftover Toast or non-current networks the device has saved, then connect to your own network and confirm the correct password with your network manager or internet service provider. Because Toast does not manage your network, see Handheld Device Is Not Connecting to Internet (Self-Managed Network) for the full steps.
