With hole-by-hole scores continuously being entered, there is very valuable data available to you as a Manager. The Stroke Index Analysis provides just that. In this analysis, you can view the average scores for each player on every hole, depending on the tee(s) you've selected. Additionally, you can see the average score on each hole amongst all your players. When determining the Handicap Hole Allocation on your scorecard, this gives you just the information you need.
In this article, we will discuss the steps required to utilize the Stroke Index Analysis feature.
Select a Date Range:
To get to the Stroke Index Analysis, go to Customer Center > Season Management > Stroke Index Analysis.
The goal here is to generate a spreadsheet report that lists the data you are looking for. The first step is to select a date range of all the scores to look at (as shown below). Only dates with completed rounds will be available to be chosen.
Add Tee Groups:
The next step is to review and add new tee groups if needed. A tee group will be created for every tee on your course by default. Each tee group will have a sheet on the spreadsheet report with all the data for that tee. When selecting a tee group, there will be some options to define:
Tee: A list of all your courses and tees will be here. Check on the tee(s) that need to be included in this tee group. In most cases, each tee group will only have one tee selected. In the screenshot below, you will see that only the black tee is selected.
Gender: When generating the analysis for this tee group, what genders are we looking at? Male, female, or All? Remember that the Gender field in your master roster must have M or F for this to be accurate.
Scratch Golfer Range: There will be a separate chart for scratch golfers in the spreadsheet report. This is where you select the Handicap Index range of the scratch golfers. Note: For recommendation for maximum CH for scratch golfers, please refer to the USGA Rules of Handicapping.
Bogey Golfer Range: There will also be a separate chart for bogey golfers. Again, select the range of Handicap Indexes to be included in this chart. Note: For recommendations for bogey golfer range, please refer to the USGA Rules of Handicapping.
Custom Tee Groups:
You may also want to add a new (custom) tee group. To do so, follow these steps:
Go to your Customer Center > Season Management > Stroke Index Analysis.
Select the "New Tee Group" tab.
File in a Name for the Tee Group.
Select the tee and gender and define the ranges outlined in the previous section.
Press "Save Settings."
In the sequence below, we create a new (custom) tee group called "Men." This tee group will include scores from only Men from all the Men's tees. Again, a new sheet will be included on the spreadsheet report for this tee group.
Defining Leagues/Events to Include:
There is also a Leagues/Events tab. It is important to review this tab to ensure all the appropriate event/league scores are included in this report. For instance, we unchecked the Par 3 Tournament, so scores from that event will not be used in the report (as shown below).
Note: Archived Events/Leagues will not be available to be included in these reports. If you would like to include an archived Event/League in the report, you can restore that event/league. For more details on archiving and restoring events/leagues, Click Here.
Downloading a Report:
When you are ready to download the analysis report onto a spreadsheet, click "Save and Download XLS" on the bottom right in any tee group. A report will be downloaded for you (as shown below).
In the image above, we are looking at the Blue Tee Group. There will be a separate sheet at the bottom of the report for each tee group. On the top of each sheet, we list the settings for each tee group (Tees, Gender, # of Bogey and Scratch Golfers in the report, and Average CH). Each sheet includes three charts. First, there is the Summary chart. This chart summarizes all the data for this tee group. By looking at the scratch and bogey golfer ranges, we can compute and list the average scores on each hole for both, show the difference between the two averages, Course Handicap as per analysis, and Playing Handicap as on scorecard.
Again, let's look at the screenshot above as an example. On hole #1 on the blue tee, the average score for a scratch golfer is 5.11. The average score for a bogey golfer is 5.3. The difference between the two is 0.19. By comparing this average scores from other holes, hole #1 should be listed as the #9 Handicap Hole on the course. However, currently on the scorecard, it is listed as #13.
Below the summary chart, we list the expanded bogey golfer and scratch golfer chart. These charts show all the scores used to compute the summary chart.
To further understand how Handicap Holes are allocated, refer to Appendix E (Stroke Index Allocation) in the USGA Rules of Handicapping.
Deleting Tee Groups:
In the event you would like to remove any or all of the tee groups from the report, you can do this by one of the following options:
Remove All Tee Groups: Go to Customer Center > Season Management > Stroke Index Analysis and click the option "Remove All Tee Groups." Note: You will need to rebuild each tee group if you would like to include them in the report in the future.
Remove Individual Tee Group: Go to Customer Center > Season Management > Stroke Index Handicap Analysis, select the tab for the tee group you wish to remove, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click the option "Remove Tee Group." Note: You will need to rebuild this tee group if you would like to include it in the report in the future.
