Spotlight: Are you getting the most out of TV Displays?

Updated over 4 months ago

TV displays are a great feature that players really enjoy. They can also reduce work on your end. Most of our customers know that our leaderboards can be displayed on TV’s. However, there are some lesser-known best practices that will help your tournament operations stand out from the rest. In this Spotlight, we will discuss some best practices in detail.

Smart TV's, Google Chromecast, and Amazon Fire TV:

Dealing with the cords and a laptop can be a hassle. Rather than running an HDMI cord from a TV to a laptop, consider a couple of other methods to connect your TV display:

  1. Smart TV: It doesn't get much easier than this. No extra wires or laptops to connect. Access the TV display link through the browser of the Smart TV. Click Here for suggestions if you are shopping for a Smart TV.

  2. Google Chromecast: This is an affordable alternative to a Smart TV. The inexpensive device is inserted into the HDMI port of your TV, wirelessly connecting your laptop to your TV. Click Here to learn more.

  3. Amazon Fire TV: Using this device, our mobile app, and a TV, you can easily display a round leaderboard on the TV and control the display settings using the Fire TV Stick's remote. Click Here for details.

Mobilizing Your TV's:

It’s likely that you already have TV’s set up in various areas throughout your clubhouse. In many cases, they may be mounted on a wall and cannot be moved. It would really be nice, however, to have the option to move your TV display around.

Try a TV stand with wheels. Have a lunch buffet out on the patio during a nice day? Moving the TV to that location will really showcase the display. You could also consider setting up a TV out on the golf course (e.g., halfway house, 10th tee, etc). As long as you have access to electrical and cellular service, you can connect to the internet using one of these two methods:

  1. Using a cellular hotspot (e.g, Verizon Jetpack, etc)

  2. Using a cell phone as a hot spot

Positioning live leaderboards on the golf course is a sure-fire way to create memorable experiences for your players.

Displaying Pre-Event Information:

Don’t think of the TV display as just for leaderboards. A common practice is to connect the TV display before a round to show the tee sheet, local rules, closest to the pin and longest drive details, administrative info, etc. Oftentimes, there is a gathering place (e.g., lunch, breakfast, opening ceremony, etc.) where players are hanging out. Setting up the TV display in this area with pre-event information will help set the stage for an exciting tournament experience.

Photo Gallery Slideshow:

Tap into the social side of your events and display some photos on a TV after the completion of a round. Your players may find themselves watching the photo slideshow more than the leaderboard!

Photo galleries are easy to set up and manage. Simply take photos on a digital camera or from our mobile app and upload them to an album for display. Once uploaded, display the Photo Stream portal page in “slideshow” mode on the TV.

Collage and Image Pages:

Inserting Collage and Image pages is a great way to add content to your TV display. Here are a some examples:

  • Promote Club Events: What better way to promote an upcoming club event than by adding the event flyer to the TV Display? Upload the flyer as an image or build the flyer in the Collage editor.

  • Highlight the Winners: A trophy and some shop credit is nice, but why not give the winners some more recognition? Once the event is complete, take a photo of the winners on the mobile app. Easily upload that photo to a collage page and add some congratulatory text. Within a few minutes, the winners will be highlighted on the TV display.

  • Highlight Your Sponsors: For outings, use the TV to display branding, messages, and any other content that the outing sponsor may want to present. This kind of sponsor visibility has real value, and may even be an upsell revenue opportunity for you when negotiating outings.
