Ball Options when Creating a Tournament

Updated over 4 months ago

When setting up a tournament, there is an option to select the Balls to be counted in the tournament.

The options to select here vary depending on the Competition selected. Below is a list of all the potential options:

"Player vs." Ball Options:

  1. Own Ball on Each Hole: The score on every hole is counted for the player.

  2. Own Ball Selected Holes: Select the holes in which the player's score will be counted. For instance, if you only want to count the odd holes for each player, put "0" in for all the even holes and "1" in for all the odd holes. Click Here for details on how handicaps are computed for this type of tournament.

  3. Own Ball Selected by Par: Maybe the tournament only wants to count the player's score on Par 3s. If so, enter "1" for Par 3 and "0" for the rest. Click Here for details on how handicaps are computed for this type of tournament.

"Pair vs." Ball Options:

  1. Best Ball on Each Hole: Count the best ball of the pair on each hole.

  2. Both Balls on Each Hole: Count the balls of both players in each pair. A player cannot "pick up" on a hole.

  3. Average of Both Balls: Take the average score between the two pairs. When playing this format, decimal handicaps must be used. Click Here for details.

  4. Best Gross then Best Net: Score 1 gross ball and 1 net ball, but the lowest gross score MUST be used (even if that player would have a lower resulting net score). The same ball cannot be counted towards both the gross and net score.

  5. Balls Selected by Hole: Specifically select the number of balls to be counted on each hole. Maybe count one ball on the front 9 and both balls on that back 9?

  6. Balls Selected by Par: Specifically select the number of balls to be counted depending on the par of the hole.

  7. Alt Shot/Foursomes: Shots are alternated by each pair throughout the round. Only one ball is played and scored for each pair.

  8. Scramble: Each pair is a scramble team.

  9. 9/9, 6/6/6, 3/3/3: Different balls are counted throughout the tournament. For instance, Alt Shot could be played in the first 6, Scramble in the second 6, and Best Ball in the last 6 holes. Click Here for details.

"Foursome vs." & "Team (all) vs." Ball Options:

  1. Best Ball on each Hole: Count the best ball for every team/foursome on each hole.

  2. Best Gross then Best Net: Score 1 gross ball and 1 net ball, but the lowest gross score MUST be used (even if that player would have a lower resulting net score). The same ball cannot be counted towards both the gross and net score.

  3. Balls Selected by Hole: Enter the number of balls to be counted on every hole on the course.

  4. Balls Selected by Par: Enter the number of holes to be counted on Par 3s, Par 4s, and Par 5s.

  5. Best Two Balls on Each Hole: Count the best two balls of the foursome/team

  6. Best Three Balls on Each Hole: Count the best 3 balls of the foursome/team.

  7. All Balls on each Hole: Count every ball of the foursome/team.

  8. Average of All Balls: Take the average score for every hole of the foursome/team. When playing this format, decimal handicaps must be used. Click Here for details.

  9. Scramble: Each foursome is a scramble team.

  10. 2x2 Person Scramble (Both Balls): Each foursome is a team. Players in position 1 & 2 play a scramble and players in position 3 & 4 play a scramble. The scramble scores for both pairs in the foursome add combined for a total team score.

  11. 2x2 Person Scramble (Best Balls): Each foursome is a team. Players in position 1 & 2 play a scramble and players in position 3 & 4 play a scramble. Take the best scramble score on each hole of the two pairs for a total team score.

  12. ChaChaCha: On the 1st hole, you count the best ball of the foursome. On the 2nd hole, you count the best 2. On the 3rd, count the best 3. This process repeats so that you go back to counting the best ball on the 4th hole, and the best two on the 5th hole.

  13. Lone Ranger: Every hole, one player in each foursome is assigned to be the lone ranger. Count the lone ranger's score plus the best ball of the other 3 players in the foursome.

  14. Advanced: Create and customize your own tournament by selecting what balls to be counted and when.

  15. 9/16/25:This team-based format is used by the Southern California Golf Association where a set number of points is earned on every hole among the threesomes, foursomes, and fivesomes.

Advanced Ball:

The Advanced Ball options lets you get very specific and creative with your tournament's ball and hole selection. In order to use the Advanced Balls option, the competition needs to be foursome v. field, foursome v. flight, team v field, or team v flight competition. (You can also use advanced balls for fivesomes and sixsomes.) For complete details on using the Advanced Ball option, Click Here.
