  2. Go to TikTok → Audience

  3. Click Create Custom Audience

Step 1: Basic Audience Details

Audience Name

Give your audience a clear and descriptive name (example: TikTok ATC 30 Days).

Ad Account

Select the TikTok Ad Account where this audience will be created.

Step 2: Choose How to Create the Audience

Trackify provides two ways to create a TikTok Custom Audience:

  1. By Rule

  2. By Shopify Customer Segment

Each option shows different settings.

Option 1: Create Audience by Rule

This option builds audiences based on pixel events (user actions).

Audience Type

Pixel

  • Includes users who interacted with your store via the selected pixel

  • This is the most common and recommended option

Audience Subtype

You must select one of the following:

Normal (Default)

  • Standard audience type

  • Works for most TikTok campaigns

  • Recommended unless you specifically use Reach & Frequency campaigns

Reach & Frequency

Reach & Frequency (R&F) is a TikTok campaign buying type that allows you to:

  • Control how many unique users see your ads

  • Control how often they see your ads

⚠️ Only select this if you are running Reach & Frequency campaigns in TikTok Ads Manager.

Auto-Refresh (Recommended)

What Auto-Refresh Does

  • Automatically updates the audience daily

  • Adds new users who meet your rules

  • Removes users who fall outside the lookback window

This keeps your audience fresh and accurate over time.

Example

If you create an audience on March 8 with:

  • Lookback window: 7 days

  • Auto-refresh: Enabled

March 8: Includes users from March 1–7
March 9: Automatically updates to March 2–8

If Auto-refresh is disabled, the audience becomes static and never updates.

Include Rules

This defines who should be added to the audience.

Pixel

Select the pixel used to track events.

Event Types (Examples)

Some common TikTok events include:

  • Page Browse – User visited any page

  • Product Detail Page Browse – Viewed a product page

  • Pixel Add to Cart – Added a product to cart

  • Initiate Checkout – Started checkout

  • Complete Payment / Place an Order – Completed purchase

  • Click Button – Clicked tracked buttons

  • Subscribe / Contact / Download – Engagement actions

👉 Choose events based on your campaign goal.

Lookback Periods

Select how long users stay in the audience:

  • 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 120, or 180 days

You must select at least one period.

Exclude Rules (Optional)

This removes users who performed certain actions.

Common examples:

  • Exclude purchasers from Add to Cart audiences

  • Exclude checkout users from prospecting audiences

Exclude rules use the same pixel, event, and lookback logic as Include rules.

Create Audience

Once Include and Exclude rules are set:

  • Click Create Custom Audience

  • The audience will appear in TikTok Ads Manager

  • Status will change to Ready once processed

Option 2: Create Audience by Shopify Customer Segment

This option builds audiences using Shopify customer data, not pixel events.

Audience Subtype

Same options apply:

  • Normal (recommended)

  • Reach & Frequency (only for R&F campaigns)

Shopify Customer Segments

Select one of the predefined Shopify segments, such as:

Customers Who Haven’t Purchased

  • Great for first-time buyer campaigns

Customers Who Have Purchased at Least Once

  • Ideal for upsells and cross-sells

Customers Who Have Purchased More Than Once

  • Best for loyalty and retention campaigns

Abandoned Checkouts (Last 30 Days)

  • Targets high-intent users who didn’t complete checkout

Email Subscribers

  • Useful for warm traffic and remarketing

These segments automatically sync from Shopify and stay updated.

Create Audience

  • Click Create Custom Audience

  • The audience will appear in TikTok Ads Manager

  • Status will change to Ready once processed

When to Use Which Method

Use Rule-Based Audiences when:

  • You want behavior-based targeting

  • You rely on pixel events

  • You want granular control (ATC, Checkout, View, etc.)

Use Shopify Customer Segments when:

  • You want customer-list-based targeting

  • You don’t want to rely on pixel data

Facebook and Snapchat platforms also have custom audience builders, must check this feature.
