A Domain is the .com name that you purchase.
An Example we use is CulinarytoursofNebraska.com
It'll appear in your Pages section similar to this:
It's important to understand that Travefy does not sell you a Domain
You can purchase one from any Domain Provider
Other important Terms to understand when completing these steps are as followed:
DNS Record
A DNS record is a piece of information you can change and input on your Domain's side. This means that if you purchase your domain through GoDaddy, then all DNS changes will happen on GoDaddy.
'A' Name Records
This is a type of DNS record that -when added correctly- will make your Travefy-built website covered with your purchased domain instead of Travefy! For example: Instead of Travefy.com/website/lotsofnumbersandletters as the URL, it will be your purchased domain, like CulinarytoursofNebraska.com above!
'C' Name Record
This is a type of DNS record that -when added correctly- can make your Travefy forms and trips covered with your purchased domain instead of Travefy! For example: Instead of Travefy.com/trip/etc, it will be trips.culinarytoursofnebraska.com!
You will also use C Name Records to make your website accessible as a www. If you do not add the C Name record specifically for www., going to www.yourwebsite.com will not work.
To mask your Travefy website with either option shown here, you will need access to your DNS panel. This is located within the domain name hosting service you use. You will need to be signed in and have account permissions to make changes and add new DNS records.
When someone keys in your custom domain URL, if you want them to see the Page you're building in Travefy the following steps are needed:
Log into your domain provider.
Add your first A Record in your domain provider's DNS area
Note: Your domain provider's dashboard could look slightly different from what's pictured.
Note: If you are unable to edit or delete unwanted A records, your providers customer support for these records could be needed.
Click the edit button that's in the same row as your A record.
If there is no A record, you'll want to add one using the Add button.
In the Data field, enterTravefy's IP address (23.22.89.49)
In the Name Field either add an @ symbol or leave it blank
(this will depend on the domain provider).
Example: GoDaddy, you'll use the "@" symbol. In Namecheap, you usually leave the name field blank.
If you are prompted to choose TTL settings, you can leave TTL settings at the default value.
Click Save once you've added all the necessary data to the A Record.
Repeat the steps for Adding an A Record 2 more times.
In the Data field, enterTravefy's IP address 44.198.26.211
and repeat what was success from above, adding an @ in the Name Field if needed.
Click Save.
Add the third and final A Record with a Data field of 52.2.213.190
and repeat what was success from above, adding an @ in the Name Field if needed.
Click Save.
Your DNS List should be similar to the example below with three A Records for each IP address.Add a CNAME Record
You will want to also have your Domain found if someone still uses www. before your domain.
Examplewww.CulinarytoursofNebraska.com
Sometimes this will already be done for you. But you will want to verify that you have a CNAME record that has "www" in the Name field and your Domain in the Data field.Example:
IMPORTANT: It's is important to not change or edit other DNS settings in your hosting/domain account as it can break your website or email.
Go to your Domain Masking settings in your Travefy account
On the next page, click Settings and then Setup Domain.
Enable Custom Domain and input domain information
Click on Enable Custom Domain
From there, select the second option in Step 1 and input your domain and click on Save Domain.
Note: You cannot put www in this box. Do not put www. and then your domain. Only put your domain name and then .com.
Click Save Domain and then Save again to any other confirmation screen.
Test Settings
On the next screen scroll to the bottom of the page and find the Test Settings Button. You should find a Success message appear if all Records were entered properly and there are no other A Records on the DNS list.
Wait 24 hours
This will give your domain provider and Travefy time to sync up. During that time, you'll notice issues like landing on the Trips page when typing in your domain or you might notice your site's SSL certificate isn't set. This is normal. Don't touch anything in either account. If things still aren't working after that 24-hour period, message professional@travefy.com or set up a domain masking session to get help from our support team!
My Domain Masking is Set Up. How will I see the changes?
Once the Domain Masking set up is complete, you will be able to see your Domain Masking in effect when you view the online, shareable itinerary.
Your Domain Masking will automatically display for all newly created trips.
You will also be able to see Domain Masking in Effect on your Marketing Profile, your Travefy Website, & Forms.
For old trips that you created before purchasing Domain Masking, you will want to manually change the Platform to your new domain.
To see how to do this take a look at this FAQ.
If you have questions at any point while trying to set up your Domain Masking feature or feel that you may need assistance please reach out via chat, email or schedule a training with us!
Checking or Troubleshooting:
For further testing you can also use this DNS Queries tool to test if your CNAME record is setup correctly.
Example test:
If the DNS Queries tool can see your CNAME record it will populate a note of it in the list of results. If it cannot see your CNAME record it will note that no records were found.
