The external reference is required for clocking in and out, as well as for payroll processing, when creating an employee. It can be entered manually or auto-assigned, depending on the configuration.
To enter it manually, simply add the reference number when creating the employee. If you prefer to auto-assign the external reference, you can enable the auto-assignment feature.
How to auto-assign the external reference to employees
Go to General Settings in the configuration (the cog icon in the top right-hand corner).
Head over to the Employee section.
Enable "Automatically Assign Employee External References" and enter a starting number.
Update the settings.
