Understanding how audits are calculated is important.

A typical audit contains responses Yes, No, and N/A. Each response contributes differently to the overall score. “Yes” responses indicate success and add the points to the total score, “No” responses highlight areas for improvement and reduce the score, and “N/A” responses are excluded from the total score calculation.

How the audit scoring works:

  1. Yes answers: Each “Yes” adds the point to the total score.

  2. No answers: Each “No” is considered negative. It reduces the score, which comes from:

    • Point that would have been earned if it were Yes, plus

    • Point penalty for answering No.

    • For example, in a failed question, “Yes“ answer is worth 1 point, while a “No“ answer deducts 1 points. So the total deduction for this question is 2 points.

  3. N/A answers: Questions marked “Not Applicable” are excluded from the total score. They don’t add or deduct points.

Below is the scoring calculation:

  • Total Scored Questions = Total QuestionsQuestions with N/A answers

  • Percentage Score (%) = (Yes answers ÷ Total Scored Questions) × 100

For example, if an audit has 5 total questions and 1 marked as N/A with 3 Yes answers (Y = 1, N = 0):

  • Total Scored Questions = 4

  • Percentage Score = (3 ÷ 4) × 100 = 75%
