Karbon Integration Overview

You can now connect Truss with Karbon to keep your projects, tasks, and client activity in sync — automatically. When enabled, Truss will create Karbon work items for new projects and keep everything up to date across both systems.

What the Integration Does

  • Automatic work item creation: When a new Truss project is created from an Organizer upload, a matching Karbon work item is created.

  • Two-way syncing: Intake and Delivery tasks sync between Truss and Karbon, including status, due dates, and notifications (e-signs, comments, file uploads).

  • Direct Karbon access: Each Truss project includes a Karbon button to jump straight to the corresponding Karbon work item.

  • Organizer upload filter: In the Organizer Uploads screen, you can now filter and archive uploads whose taxpayers aren’t linked to Karbon yet.

Setup Steps

Step 1 — Create a Work Template in Karbon

  1. Go to Karbon → Work Templates.

  2. Create (or edit) a template that matches your firm’s workflow.

  3. Add one or both Truss task types:

    • Truss Intake Task

    • Truss Delivery Task
(Use whichever fits your process — or both.)

Step 2 — Enable the Integration in Truss

  1. In Truss, go to Organization Settings → Integrations → Karbon.

  2. Turn on Karbon Integration for Organizers.

  3. Select and attach your Karbon Work Template.

How Syncing Works

Intake Task

When a new project is created in Truss:

  • A Karbon Work Item is automatically created with:

    • Project name

    • Due date

    • Status

    • Other project details

  • Updates in Truss (like due date changes) sync automatically to Karbon after a short delay.

Client-triggered updates:

  • Engagement letter signed → Notification appears in Karbon

  • Client adds comments → Comment syncs to Karbon (you can reply from there)

  • File uploaded or submitted for review → Notification in Karbon

  • Intake task completed in Truss → Task auto-completes in Karbon

Return Delivery Task

  • Start your Return Delivery Task directly from Karbon.

  • When you upload a return in Truss, the linked delivery project syncs automatically.

  • Project details (name, due date, etc.) stay in sync.

  • Once clients complete e-signatures, the delivery task in Karbon auto-completes — signaling the project is ready for the next step.

Tips & Notes

  • Initial syncs may take a few minutes.

  • Ensure contact names match in both systems for smooth linking.

  • Use the Organizer Uploads filter to find any unlinked projects.

  • If you use both Intake and Delivery tasks, make sure each has a unique label in Karbon.
