In order to generate short video cutdowns you need to start with a short video template. You will find your video templates if you scroll down the Pencil Pro homepage. Hover over a template and click ‘Use’ and this will take you to the Chat To Ads screen. The template does not need to be related to your targeted video cutdown - it just acts as a placeholder. You will need to reference your full length video later on.

1. Next, you need to prompt for your video which might be something as simple as:

‘Generate a short video for XYZ Gin 0.0. Target audience women aged 35-50. Feature imagery of aspirational beach holidays. For Youtube.’

2. The model will respond to you with a concept which you can review and respond with ‘I like it’ if you want to move to the next stage.

3. Now the model will ask you for asset(s) so select the relevant video assets that you are looking to create cutdowns for.

4. Next the model will suggest a storyboard of scenes which it has put together based on the full length source video. They can be viewed individually and then as a full video.

You are of course free to use all of Pencil’s editing tools at the top of the screen.

It is worth noting that Pencil Pro will default to prioritising quality of cutdowns over the desired length. The AI model respects natural cuts within the original asset in order to generate the highest quality cutdowns and, as such, the end result might be longer or shorter than your template/desired length.
