How do I create and deactivate workspaces?

Can I create workspaces on my own?

Yes, as a user of Pencil, you can create workspaces independently. This option is available in the workspace selector within your Pencil interface. Navigate there to begin setting up a workspace tailored to your needs.

If you have the necessary 'Admin' rights, follow these steps to create a child workspace in Pencil:

  1. Navigate to the Settings section in your Pencil dashboard.

  2. Select Workspace from the available options.

  3. Click the Add Workspace button.

  4. Enter the name for the child workspace you want to create.

  5. Configure connections and details; import the necessary settings into the child workspace as required.

  6. Click Create to finalize your child workspace setup.

Give your workspace a name and decide whether you want it to exist as part of a parent-child hierarchy or not and then click ‘Accept and add workspace’.

While you can create standard workspaces on your own, creating a child workspace has specific requirements. You'll need 'Admin' access to create child workspaces. If you do not have administrative rights, you can request your organization's workspace admin to complete this action for you.

Your newly created workspace will automatically load.

You can create a child workspace if you have administrative rights, using the steps outlined under the Settings method above. This ensures proper connections and hierarchy setup.

See What are 'Parent' and 'Child' Workspaces? for more information.

To deactivate a workspace and make it invisible and unusable you need to click on ‘Settings’ from within a workspace you want to keep.

Choose ‘Workspaces’, locate the workspace you want to deactivate and use the toggle switch on the right hand side to toggle it off. The switch will be greyed out and the workspace will no longer be visible or accessible from within Pencil Pro.
