General Safety Tips for Handling Raw Dye and Calibration Solutions

In reference to Fluorescein, PTSA, and Rhodamine in our calibration solutions and raw dye offerings.

  • Use personal protective equipment as required

  • Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing

  • Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray

Calibration solution best practices for long-term storage:

  • Avoid prolonged use in direct sunlight or leaving containers open

  • Store these solutions in a cool, dark place, away from sunlight, and at room temperature.

  • Dyes will degrade if left to evaporate

  • To keep calibration solution bottles from contamination, certain precautions must be taken to ensure the purity of the contents.

    • Unused or used calibration solutions should never be placed back inside of calibration bottles.

    • Reusing pipettes from stock to solution should not be used, as they may introduce impurities into the bottle.

    • Hands should not be placed inside of the bottle, as they may introduce other contaminants.

    • Avoid making dilutions in the stock bottle, as that can create problems for future calibrations

    • It is recommended to use dedicated and properly labeled equipment
