Using Mentions in Chats

Type @ in a chat to mention someone. If they’re in the group, they’ll get a notification. If not, they won’t—but the tag still shows.

🧼 TL;DR:

  • Type @ to mention someone in any chat

  • If they’re part of the chat/space, they get a notification

  • If they’re not in the chat, they won’t be notified—but the mention still appears

  • This keeps chats private while still allowing you to tag names

How Mentions Work in Chat

  1. Type @ and start typing a name

  2. Select the person from the list

  3. Their name will appear highlighted in your message

  4. If they’re part of the chat, they’ll be notified

Example: “@Luis can you confirm inventory for this location?”

What If They’re Not in the Chat?

If the person you mention isn’t part of the group or space, they won’t be notified.

Why allow this?
Sometimes you want to:

  • Reference someone without alerting them

  • Note who should be looped in later

  • Leave a record for others reading the chat

The mention still shows visually so it’s clear who you’re talking about, even if they aren’t active in the space.

💡 Pro Tip:

Before assigning something or expecting a reply, make sure the person is in the chat—otherwise, they won’t be notified.
