What’s the Difference Between a Feed and a Chat?

Feeds are for structured updates. Chats (found under the Connect tab) are for fast, everyday conversations—1:1 or in groups.

Updated over 5 months ago

🧼 TL;DR:

  • Feeds = social-style updates for teams or the whole org

  • Chats = fast, flexible convos (1:1 or group)

  • Company Feed is admin-only; others may allow everyone to post

📣 What Is a Feed?

A Feed (also called a Community) is a place to share announcements, recognition, wins, and reminders with a broader group. It's built for structured, social communication—so updates feel engaging but don’t get lost in the noise.

Feeds live in the Feeds tab, not in the chat section.

🏢 Main Company Feed

  • Admin-only posting

  • Used for org-wide announcements, policies, or major updates

  • Everyone in the org is automatically added

👥 Other Feeds / Communities

  • Posting access varies by feed

  • Many allow all members to post, especially for recognition or team updates

  • Admins can guide and moderate, but most communities are meant to feel participatory

Use Cases for Feeds:

  • Company-wide updates or campaigns

  • Team recognition and shoutouts

  • Sharing new goals, initiatives, or reminders

  • Department or region-specific info

  • Milestones and celebrations

💬 What Is a Chat? (Under the Connect Tab)

Chats are where day-to-day conversations happen. They’re more flexible and responsive—ideal for coordination, quick questions, or casual team communication.

All chat types live under the Connect tab.

🧍‍♂️ 1:1 Chat

Private conversation between two users.

Use Cases:

  • Personal coaching or check-ins

  • Quick clarifications

  • Sensitive topics

👥 Space (Group Chat)

Group chat tied to a specific team, store, or location.

Use Cases:

  • Store-level coordination

  • Manager-only chats

  • Day-to-day communication across shifts or roles

🗂️ Subspace

A smaller chat within a Space, used to organize discussions by topic.

Use Cases:

  • Shift swaps

  • Inventory issues

  • Team celebrations

  • Ops or questions, separated by topic
