What Are the Different Community/Feed Visibility Types?

Uniteam supports four types of feeds (also called communities), each with different visibility & access settings.

Updated over 5 months ago

🧼 TL;DR:

  • Global = Everyone is auto-added

  • Public = Anyone can find and join

  • Private = Visible, but join requests must be approved

  • Closed = Invite-only and hidden from search

🌍 Global Feeds

  • Everyone in the company is automatically added

  • Often used for: company-wide announcements, HR updates, compliance

  • Admins control posting access

✅ Best for: ensuring every user sees essential info without needing to join manually

🟢 Public Feeds

  • Anyone in the org can find and join instantly

  • Feed is visible in search

  • Good for general interest or open team updates

✅ Best for: cross-team collaboration, wellness groups, shared wins, DEI

🔒 Private Feeds

  • Visible in search, but users must request to join

  • An admin or moderator must approve access

  • Still great for focused team communication

✅ Best for: department-level updates, manager groups, or training cohorts

🕵️ Closed Feeds

  • Not visible in search

  • Invite-only—only users added directly will see it

  • Totally hidden to everyone else

✅ Best for: leadership-only updates, sensitive projects, early-stage pilots

💡 Pro Tip:

Choose your visibility based on who should see the feed—not just who’s allowed to post in it.
Example: Use a Private Feed for store leads across locations. They’ll be able to request access if they weren’t added yet—but the rest of the org won’t flood it.
