This video demonstrates how to use the native integration between Twain and SmartLead. By connecting these tools, you can export your AI-optimized outreach copy and lead lists directly into your sending sequences without manual data entry.

1. Prepare your SmartLead Campaign

Before exporting from Twain, you must have a "shell" campaign ready in SmartLead:

  • Create a new campaign and give it a name (e.g., "Twain Outreach").

  • Add placeholder text in the email body (e.g., "ABC") to allow you to save the campaign.

  • Note: You don't need to finalize the copy here; Twain will overwrite these placeholders with your optimized text.

2. Connect the API

  • In Twain, navigate to the Export Leads section.

  • You will be prompted for your SmartLead API Key. You can find this in your SmartLead account settings.

  • Once entered, Twain will securely connect to your account and display your active SmartLead campaigns.

3. Map Your Variables

This is the most critical step to ensure your emails look right. You need to "tell" SmartLead which piece of Twain data belongs in which field:

  • Subject Line: Map the Twain subject variable to the SmartLead subject field.

  • Email Body: Map Twain’s "Step 1" copy to a custom variable in SmartLead (e.g., {{step_1}}).

  • Lead Info: Ensure standard fields like Email, First Name, and Company Name are matched correctly.

  • Crucial: The variable names in Twain must match the custom variable names you intend to use in your SmartLead templates.

4. Export and Preview

  • Click Export in Twain. Your leads and their personalized copy will be pushed to the SmartLead campaign instantly.

  • Go to SmartLead and open the Variables tab to verify the data arrived.

  • Use the Preview tool to see how a specific lead’s email will look.

  • Thread Tip: For follow-up steps (Step 2, 3, etc.), leave the subject line blank in SmartLead if you want the emails to appear in the same conversation thread.
