Connect Twain and SmartLead to export your outreach copy and lead lists directly into your sending sequences, without manual data entry.
1. Choose or create a campaign in SmartLead (optional)
You can export into an existing SmartLead campaign, or let Twain create a new one during export (see step 3). If you create it yourself, add a short placeholder text in the email body so SmartLead lets you save it. Twain's variables will replace it.
2. Connect the API
In Twain, open the campaign and click Export (or Export Leads), then choose SmartLead. If it isn't listed directly, click More first.
You will be prompted for your SmartLead API Key. You can find this in your SmartLead account settings.
Once entered, Twain will securely connect to your account and display your active SmartLead campaigns.
3. Choose the campaign and check the variables
Pick an existing campaign under Existing, or switch to New campaign and enter a name: Twain then creates the campaign in SmartLead with one email step per Twain step and the variables already inserted.
Check the variable names. Twain names them by channel, e.g. Email 1, Email 2, plus Subject 1 for the subject line.
Click Export Leads.
4. Verify and Preview
Open the campaign in SmartLead and check the Variables tab to verify the data arrived.
Use the Preview tool to see how a specific lead’s email will look.
Thread Tip: For follow-up steps (Email 2, 3, etc.), leave the subject line blank in SmartLead if you want the emails to appear in the same conversation thread.
💡Tips:
SmartLead needs an email address for every lead. Leads without one are skipped.
Turn on Skip existing leads to avoid exporting leads already in the campaign.
