Fix Twain content syncing in lemlist

Step-by-step guide to sync Twain subject lines and troubleshoot content issues in Lemlist, ensuring your email sequences display correctly.

This article covers two common issues when exporting from Twain to lemlist: subject line syncing and spacing/formatting.

Subject Line Syncing

Why custom subject lines don't transfer correctly

Lemlist's subject line sync is designed for default frameworks like "Offer" or "Relevance." If your sequence uses a custom Twain framework, the subject line variable may not link correctly — resulting in all messages showing the same {{subject}}. This happens because custom framework messages don't appear in Lemlist's subject line dropdown.

How to Fix It

  1. Open your email sequence in Lemlist.

  2. Go to the Subject line field.

  3. Click the curly brackets {} icon on the right-hand side.

  4. Select the "Subject line" custom variable.

✅ This ensures Lemlist dynamically pulls in the correct subject line per message, if the framework mapping is supported.

If You're Using a Custom Framework

  • Recreate the Lemlist campaign or resync after resetting the sequence in Twain.

  • Make sure Twain is updated to the latest version, which now supports syncing custom frameworks.

  • After updating, rebuild or resync your campaign — your custom subject lines should display correctly.

Spacing and Formatting Issues

1. How can I use the personalized messages Twain generates inside Lemlist?

To ensure Twain's content syncs correctly with Lemlist:

  1. Create a new campaign in Lemlist.

  2. Define your email sequence (e.g., 3 emails per sequence).

  3. Add initial placeholder content to each step (required for Lemlist to launch the sequence).

  4. Export enriched leads from Twain to Lemlist.

  5. Check the lead email content in Lemlist after exporting.

⚠️ Note: If the same leads already exist in Lemlist, they may not update with Twain's content. Delete the existing leads and re-upload the enriched ones.

2. Why do I see blank lines or <br> tags in the preview?

This usually happens if the wrong channel was selected during export. Choosing Email but intending to use the messages for LinkedIn (or vice versa) causes extra newlines and formatting to appear.

Solution:

  1. Delete the affected leads in Lemlist.

  2. Download the CSV directly from Twain's UI.

  3. Re-import the CSV into Lemlist.

  4. Select the correct channel (Email or LinkedIn) during setup.

3. After re-importing leads via CSV, why are my dynamic steps missing?

This can occur if:

  • Leads were not fully deleted before re-importing.

  • Column mapping was not set up correctly during CSV upload.

Solution:

  1. Delete all leads in Lemlist before re-importing.

  2. Carefully map the columns to Lemlist's fields during CSV import.

  3. Scroll to the end of the preview step in Lemlist to confirm mappings.

  4. If needed, adjust field names manually in the setup — this usually resolves missing dynamic steps.

✅ You can leave the campaign in place — just make sure all leads are deleted before re-importing enriched ones from Twain.
