How to Auto-Push Leads from Clay into Twain Workflows

How to set up a Twain Workflow with an API trigger, get the Workflow ID, and connect it to a Clay table so leads flow in automatically.

What this is

If you're building your lead list in Clay and want Twain to research and write sequences automatically as you add rows, this is the setup. Instead of pulling leads into a campaign manually, you create a Twain Workflow with an API trigger and connect it to your Clay table via a Workflow ID. Every row you run in Clay pushes the lead straight into Twain.

This is different from the standard Clay enrichment flow (where you use a Campaign ID inside a Clay integration). With Workflows, Clay drives the trigger, and Twain handles everything from there.

Step 1: Create a Workflow in Twain

  1. In the left sidebar, click + and select Workflow.

  2. In the Import step, choose API as the lead source.

  3. Pick a Campaign to attach. Twain uses that campaign's settings (buyer persona, messaging rules, campaign idea) to know what to research and write.

  4. Configure the two toggles independently:

    1. Generate sequence — Twain writes a full outreach sequence for each lead (1 credit per lead)

    2. Run expanded research — Twain gathers deep insights beyond the defaults (1 credit per lead)

  5. In the Export step, choose where processed leads should be pushed. Amplemarket and Apollo appear directly; click "More" for the full list: EmailBison, Heyreach, HubSpot, Instantly, La Growth Machine, Lemlist, Outreach, Salesforce, and Smartlead. Skip this step if you only want leads to appear in Twain.

  6. Optionally enable notifications: toggle on Send email or Notify on Slack (updates on processed leads), or leave both off.

  7. Click Create Workflow.

You'll land on the workflow view. In the right panel you'll find:

  • Copy Workflow ID — copy this, you'll need it in Clay

  • Get Clay Template — opens the Clay template pre-configured for this flow

  • Read API Docs — for custom setups beyond Clay

  • Watch Tutorial — the setup video

Step 2: Set up Clay

Click Get Clay Template in the workflow view to open the Clay template.

In the template:

  1. Find the Twain enrichment column.

  2. Paste your Workflow ID into the configuration.

  3. Map your LinkedIn Profile URL (required for individual-level research) and Email (optional).

  4. Save.

Step 3: Run

Hit run in Clay. Leads appear in your Twain workflow within a few seconds. Click into any lead from the Twain workflow view to see the research and the generated sequence.

Need a custom setup?

If you're not using Clay, you can push leads via the Twain API directly. Go to Settings → API key, open the API documentation, and find the endpoint for workflow lead ingestion.
