How Twain Works

What Twain does, how the free trial works, and where to start your first campaign.

The short version

  1. You bring leads. Upload a list (CSV, HubSpot, Apollo, etc.)
    ​

  2. You set up an Agent. This is your company, your product, and your tone. You only need to do this once.
    ​

  3. You create a Campaign. A campaign connects your leads to your Agent and gives Twain the context it needs: why you're reaching out, to whom, and what matters to them.
    ​

  4. Twain researches and writes. For each lead, Twain looks up their LinkedIn, checks their company, finds a relevant opener, and writes personalized messages for every step in your sequence.
    ​

  5. You review and export. Check the messages in Twain, then push them directly to your sequencing tool (Lemlist, SmartLead, etc.).

Twain does not send emails. It writes them. Your sequencing tool handles delivery.


The main building blocks

Agent Your outreach identity: company background, product description, writing style. Every campaign runs through an Agent.

Persona The type of person you're targeting (e.g. VP Sales at SaaS companies, 50-200 employees). Lives inside your Agent. You can have multiple Personas per Agent.

Campaign One outreach effort: a list of leads, a Persona, and a reason for reaching out. Twain builds a sequence of messages for every lead in the campaign.

Context (Campaign Brief) When you create a campaign, Twain asks you a few questions: What's the occasion for reaching out? What problem do you solve for this audience? That conversation becomes the brief Twain uses to write your messages.

Step One message in your sequence (e.g. Email intro, LinkedIn follow-up). You choose the channel and the writing framework (e.g. pain-point based, event-triggered, nudge).

Workflow An automated version of the above, end to end. Leads come in from a source (like Clay or your CRM), Twain processes them, messages go straight to your sequencer. No manual review needed.


Campaign or Workflow - which should I use?

Use a Campaign if you want to review messages before they go out. It's the right starting point for most teams.

Use a Workflow if you're processing high volumes automatically and don't need to review each message individually (e.g. daily inbound leads from Clay).


Credits

Each lead processed costs credits:

  • Messages only: 1 credit

  • Research only: 1 credit

  • Messages + research: 2 credits

New accounts start with 100 free credits (valid for 30 days). Team credits are pooled.
