❓ Why is my terminal asking for a passcode during a software upgrade?
When a terminal prompts for a code to install an upgrade, it is requesting the admin passcode.
The admin passcode can be found in the Adyen Customer Area, provided the user has the appropriate roles and permissions.
To locate it:
Log in to the Customer Area
Ensure you have the correct terminal management roles
Refer to Adyen’s documentation for Admin Passcode details
❓ Can we prevent upgrade notifications from interrupting merchants during business hours?
Yes.
You can disable on-screen notifications, including software update prompts, in the Customer Area.
To configure this:
Go to In-Person Payments
Select Terminal Settings
Choose the configuration level:
Merchant account
Store
Individual terminal
Navigate to Customization
Select Home Screen
Disable upgrade notifications
This will prevent update prompts from appearing during active business hours.
❓ Can software updates be scheduled outside of business hours?
Yes.
Terminals typically download firmware updates in the background. The update will not fully install until the configured restart hour, unless manually installed earlier.
You can view or configure the restart hour in:
Customer Area → In-Person Payments → Terminal Settings
If no restart hour is set, the default is 6:00 AM local time.
❓ What is the recommended configuration to avoid disruption?
To minimize operational impact:
Disable upgrade notifications
Ensure the restart hour is set outside of business hours
With this setup:
Firmware downloads occur automatically
Installation completes during the scheduled restart time
No manual intervention is required
📌 Important Notes
Restart hour settings can be configured at the merchant, store, or terminal level.
Admin passcode access requires the appropriate Customer Area permissions.
Terminals must remain connected to the internet to receive updates.
