Host Verification: How to Verify Your Identity

To help keep Vidle Housing safe and trustworthy for both hosts and travelers, all hosts are required to complete identity verification.

The verification process is quick, secure, and helps confirm that the person creating and managing a host account is who they say they are.

Why Is Identity Verification Required?

Identity verification is an important part of protecting the Vidle Housing community. It helps us:

  • Confirm the identity of hosts using the platform

  • Reduce fraudulent or misleading listings

  • Protect travelers from potential scams

  • Create a safer and more trustworthy booking experience

Completing identity verification may be required before you can fully use certain features of your host account or publish listings.

What You'll Need

Before beginning verification, have the following ready:

  • A valid, government-issued photo ID

  • A mobile phone with a working camera

  • Good lighting for your selfie verification

Accepted forms of government-issued identification may include:

  • Driver's license

  • State-issued identification card

  • Passport

Your identification should be current, valid, and clearly readable.

How to Start Identity Verification

During the host signup process, you'll be prompted to complete identity verification after providing your basic profile information and agreeing to the Vidle Housing Terms & Conditions and Cancellation Policy.

Click Continue to begin the verification process.

A QR code will appear on your screen.

Step 1: Scan the QR Code With Your Phone

Using your mobile phone:

  1. Open your phone's camera app.

  2. Point the camera at the QR code displayed on your computer screen.

  3. Tap the notification or link that appears.

  4. The secure verification page will open on your phone.

The verification process must be completed on a mobile device so you can securely upload your identification and complete the selfie verification.

Step 2: Upload Your Government-Issued ID

Follow the on-screen instructions to upload clear images of your valid government-issued photo ID.

For the best results:

  • Make sure your ID is not expired.

  • Use good lighting and avoid glare.

  • Make sure the entire ID is visible within the frame.

  • Make sure all information is clear and readable.

  • Do not cover or crop any part of the ID.

  • Do not upload a blurry image.

Do not upload:

  • Screenshots of an ID

  • Photocopies

  • Photos of an ID displayed on another screen

  • Edited or altered images

  • Expired identification

Step 3: Complete the Selfie Verification

After uploading your identification, you'll be prompted to complete a quick selfie verification.

Follow the on-screen instructions and make sure:

  • Your face is clearly visible.

  • You're in a well-lit area.

  • You remove sunglasses, hats, or other items that may obstruct your face.

  • You complete the verification yourself.

  • You follow any movement or positioning instructions shown on the screen.

The selfie is used to help confirm that the person completing verification matches the identification provided.

What Happens After I Complete Verification?

Once you've submitted your government-issued ID and completed the selfie verification, your information will be reviewed.

If your identity is successfully verified, you can continue setting up your host account and managing your listings.

In some cases, additional review or documentation may be required before your account can be fully approved.

Why Is My Verification Pending?

If your verification shows as pending, it may mean your information is still being reviewed.

Common reasons additional review may be needed include:

  • The ID image is blurry or difficult to read.

  • There is glare covering important information.

  • The ID is expired.

  • The selfie could not be clearly matched to the identification.

  • Information provided during signup does not match the identification.

  • Additional security review is required.

If additional information is needed, our team may contact you with next steps.

Why Did My Verification Fail?

Verification may be unsuccessful if the system cannot confirm your identity.

Common reasons include:

  • Uploading an expired ID

  • Submitting blurry or incomplete images

  • Poor lighting or glare

  • Uploading a screenshot or photocopy instead of the original ID

  • The selfie doesn't clearly match the identification

  • Another person completes the selfie verification

  • Information doesn't match across your account and identification

If your verification is unsuccessful, review the instructions carefully and try again using clear, current documentation.

Additional Documentation May Be Required

For safety and fraud prevention, Vidle Housing may request additional documentation to verify a host, account, or property.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

  • Additional identification

  • Proof of property ownership

  • Proof that you're authorized to manage or rent the property

  • Additional account or listing information

Being asked for additional documentation does not necessarily mean there is a problem with your account. It may simply be required to complete a security review and protect travelers and hosts using the platform.

Protecting Your Personal Information

Identity verification is completed through a secure verification process designed to protect your personal information.

Never send sensitive identification documents through Vidle Housing messages to another host or traveler, and never share your account password or login credentials.

If Vidle Housing needs additional documentation, follow the instructions provided by our support team.

Having Trouble With Verification?

If you're unable to complete identity verification:

  • Make sure you're using a mobile device with a working camera.

  • Check that your internet connection is stable.

  • Use a current, valid government-issued photo ID.

  • Make sure your photos are clear and well-lit.

  • Make sure the entire ID is visible.

  • Complete the selfie verification yourself.

  • Try refreshing the page or restarting the verification process if needed.

If you continue experiencing issues, contact our support team through the Help Center for assistance.

When contacting support, provide a description of the issue and, if possible, a screenshot of any error message you're seeing. For your security, do not send sensitive identification documents through general messaging unless specifically instructed through a secure process.
