Tags play an essential role in the value Virtually provides. In addition to giving you a way to segment your members, tags allow you to determine:
Who receives invites, reminders, and announcements
Who can access specific events
How you view your attendance and survey data
Whose data gets pulled into specific Reports you create (SRM users only)
....just to name a few!
In this article, we'll cover some important things you should know about tags.
Creating & Managing Tags
To create tags in Virtually, just head to 'Members' and select 'Manage Tags.' From there, you'll see a drawer with options to Create, Bulk Add Members, Edit, and Delete your tags.
Select the 'Create tag' button to create new tags. If you choose to import your members via Slack, Circle, or Zapier, you'll need to create all of your tags ahead of time. If you import members via .CSV, we'll auto-generate tags on your behalf based on your .CSV.
Select the 'Bulk Add Members' icon (the first of three) in order to bulk tag members by dropping in their emails. You can add up to 50 emails at a time with this bulk tagging feature.
Select the 'Edit' button to edit your tags.
Select the 'Delete' button to delete your tags.
Tagging Members
There are a variety of ways to get your members tagged:
1. Via .CSV Member Import
When you import members from a .csv file into Virtually, you're asked to provide 3 key pieces of information about each member: Name, Email, and Tags. Learn more about importing member via .csv here.
You can import members with a single tag or multiple tags. Just be sure they're separated by a comma in the Tag column. Like this:
When you complete your .csv member import, Virtually will automatically generate these tags on your behalf. That means there's no need to create tags in Virtually ahead of time - which saves you a step!
2. Via Slack or Circle Import
You can now import members into your Virtually account directly from Slack or Circle. Learn more about importing from Slack and importing from Circle.
When you import, you choose the tags you'd like to have associated with your importees. Keep in mind, the tags you choose need to already exist in your Virtually account, so be sure to create them before initiating your import!
3. Via Zapier
Virtually Business Tier users can auto-import members via Zapier. Learn more about importing members from Zapier here.
When you create your Zap, you can determine how you'd like incoming members to get tagged.
It's important that you create those tags ahead of time in Virtually in order for these Zaps to work.
