How do I complete my marriage license?
Updated over a week ago

Completing the Utah marriage license can be difficult. Luckily, we are here to help you! In this FAQ you will read a step-by-step guide to completing the license.

Important notes

-You cannot press the back arrow at any time during the process. Once as you go forward a page, you cannot go back.

-Make sure to check your spelling and information. We have to contact Utah County to make any corrections.

-If something does go wrong, please email us at hello@virtualmarriage.com immediately as corrections sometimes take up to 24 hours to get completed.

-Each couple only fills out ONE APPLICATION

Getting Started

When you scheduled your ceremony, you should have received an email from us with the link to complete your marriage license. If not, you can use this link. When you click on the link, it will bring you to Utah's website. If English is not your preferred language, scroll down to the bottom right corner of the page and find the white box labeled "select language". Now that everything is in the correct language, you are good to go on to the next page.

First Page

You will be prompted in the first box to select your marriage date. You should have already scheduled your date with us, so simply input that date in this box. If your date is more than 32 days from the day you are filling out your license, STOP. Marriage licenses in Utah expire after 32 days. You will need to come back and complete your application closer to your scheduled date.

The next two questions on the page ask if both applicants are over 18 and if either have been divorced in the past 60 days. Neither is a dealbreaker, but some extra steps must be taken. If you are under 18, you must appear in person in Utah to get married. If you have been divorced in the last 60 days, read this article prior to continuing.

Applicant I

On the next page, one of the applicants will start to fill out their information, starting with their email address. This is the email that your confirmation email and marriage certificate will be sent to.

After you have selected that, you will be prompted to scan your ID. If you have questions about what IDs can be used, you can read more about it here. If your ID doesn't scan, which is a common problem with their system, please read this article to learn more about the next steps.

Once as you are through the ID page, you can continue to fill out the rest of your information.

Applicant II

This section is for the information of the second applicant and is to be filled out by that person (except in certain circumstances). It will follow the same steps as the first. They will need to use a separate email and ID.

Address and Payment

On this page, you will be asked to input another address. This can be the same as your current residential address, or it can be different. This is the address that your certificate will be sent to.

Note: shipping outside of the United States will be more expensive than inside.

After you select the address, you will be asked to pay for the license. It will be between $70 and $145 depending on where you are shipping it to. If you are using a foreign card, you will likely need to put "00000" in the zip code line to make the payment go through. If there are any other payment issues, please contact us and we can help troubleshoot.

Conclusion

Once as you have completed and paid for the license, you will be sent an email with a QR code and blue link. Please forward this email (by pressing the double arrow icon) to hello@virtualmarriage.com. Your officiant will need that link at the time of your marriage.

We're excited to be a part of your special day! Let us know if you have any other questions during the process.
