We strongly advice all volunteers to get a travel insurance before their stay abroad. Generally, having a travel insurance is not mandatory in order to book your volunteer program with Volunteer World. However, it might be demanded by the project coordinator of the volunteer program you will join.

While Volunteer World does everything to ensure your trip abroad proceeds as smoothly as possible, it is essential for you to have an adequate travel insurance in case you get sick, your bags disappear or something is stolen.

Volunteer World has therefore partnered with World Nomads to ensure volunteers have access to the best insurance deals, designed specifically for volunteer travelers. World Nomads is recommended by Lonely Planet and is underwritten by insurance giants like Allianz, IHI, BCS Insurance Group, BUPA, Mondial Assistance and Millstream.

This insurance covers medical emergencies, emergency evacuations, trip cancellations, personal belongings and personal liabilities. World Nomads is one of the only insurance companies that allows its clients to claim their insurance whilst still traveling or to extend their policy if they decide to stay longer.
