Connect Walla and Mailchimp Using Zapier
Updated over a week ago

❗Only clients or leads added to Walla after Zapier is connected to Walla will be migrated over to Mailchimp.

Before You Connect Mailchimp to Zapier

It is important to know only new contacts will be imported. Historical contacts will not be imported. Before activating your Mailchimp Zap, we suggest exporting your clients and leads from Walla and importing them into Mailchimp.

You'll want to create an Audience in Mailchimp before getting started.

Connect Mailchimp to Zapier

To start, you will need to add Walla as an App to your Zapier account.

Once you connect Walla to Zapier, you are ready to set up Zaps! Be sure to connect Mailchimp to Zapier. If you have not already, here is how:

  1. Log in to Zapier

  2. Select Apps, then choose + Add Connection

  3. Search Mailchimp and log in to connect

Set Up Your Zaps

Only new clients added after connecting the Zapier integration will be sent over to Zapier. Once you connect Walla to Zapier, create a test client in Walla so you can test out the Zapier integration. This way, you will not have to wait until a new client is added to the system to see how Zapier works!

  1. After adding your new/ test client to Walla, Log in to Zapier then choose Zaps

  2. Choose Create Zap

  3. A pop-up will appear where a Trigger will be entered. Search and select Walla. Walla will be the Trigger.

  4. There are four Zaps you can set up in Zapier. Choose a Zap from the Event dropdown:

Opt-in Lead: Triggers when a lead is opted-in to email marketing.
Opt-out Lead:Triggers when a lead is opted-out of email marketing

Opt-in Client: Triggers when a client is opted-in to email marketing.
Opt-out Client: Triggers when a client is opted-out of email marketing.

Note: The above Zaps need to be created in pairs so client information is sent over when a client or lead opts-in and their information is removed when a client or lead opts-out.

  5. Choose your connected Walla account from the drop-down

  6. Run a Test Trigger then select Continue

  7. Under 2.Action search and select Mailchimp

  8. Under even choose Add/ update Subscriber then choose Continue

Note: The above Zaps need to be created in pairs so client information is sent over when a client or lead opts-in and their information is removed when a client or lead opts-out.

  9. Choose your connected Mailchimp account from the drop-down the choose Continue

  10. The set-up action will be the fields that will be imported from Walla to Mailchimp
In the below example a client's First Name, Last Name, and email address will be imported

  11. After making your selections choose Test & Continue then review the information that will be imported. If the information that will be imported looks correct choose Publish Zap

  12. After publishing your Zap, we suggest renaming your Zap to reflect the Walla event trigger. In the above example our event is Opted-In Client in Walla so we named our Zap Opted-In Client in Walla:

Repeat the above steps for a total of four times, each time selecting a different event. Make sure you select the same attributes every time. What this means is if you select First Name, Last Name, and Email, you will want to make sure you select First Name, Last Name, and Email for all additional Zaps you create. When you repeat the steps, the only step that will be different is the event you choose. To repeat the process again, select Create Zap to create your additional Zaps for Opt-in Lead, Opt-out Lead, Opt-in Client, and Opt-out Client

Your Home page in Zapier will have a total of four Zaps and should look as follows:

When set-up successfully, Mailchimp will begin to import contacts and your selected contact information. This can be found under the Audience section in Mailchimp!

Tasks and Zaps

A Zap is an automation. In this case, Opted-In Client in Walla is a Zap that Zapier runs when a client opts-in to marketing emails. Zapier also checks Walla for clients that opted-out. This is another Zap.

When the opt-in Zap runs, Zapier pulls over a client. When a client or lead is sent to Mailchimp, that is considered to be a Task. The same goes for when a client or lead opts-out.

You can see how easily tasks can add up quickly! Keep this in mind when you are choosing a Zapier plan!
