Signing in with Apple or Google: How It Works

How Continue with Apple and Continue with Google work on Webot, which email your account uses, how to look up an Apple relay address, and what to do if you lose access to it.

If you registered or log in to Webot using Continue with Apple or Continue with Google, this article explains how that login works, which email your account uses, and what to do if you lose access to it.

What happens when you sign up

With Apple, Apple asks whether to share your email or hide it:

  • Share my email — your Webot account is registered with the real email address tied to your Apple ID.

  • Hide My Email — Apple generates a random address ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com and uses that as your registration email. Mail Webot sends there is forwarded to your real Apple ID email automatically, so you do not need to check it separately. Seeing that unfamiliar address on your account is not an error.

With Google, your account is registered with the email address of the Google account you chose.

Your sign-in email is your account's email

Whichever address ends up on your account is the email contact method bound to it — exactly as if you had typed it in yourself. It receives your verification codes, and it counts when you work out how many contact methods your account has.

Do not know your relay address?

You can look it up on your iPhone:

Settings → [Your Name] → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple → tap Webot, and your relay address is shown.

On older iOS versions: Settings → Apple ID → Password & Security → Hide My Email.

If mail is not arriving at that address, Apple's forwarding may be switched off — that is fixable. See Can't Receive Email Verification Code.

Please do not delete your relay address in Apple’s settings while it is the email bound to your Webot account. A deleted relay address cannot be recovered. If you have already deleted it, or you have lost access to your Apple ID itself, the lookup above will not work — please follow If you have lost access to your sign-in email below.

Setting a password

Accounts created with Apple or Google have no password at first. You can set one at any time in Security, and we recommend it:

  • It lets you log in on Android, where Sign in with Apple is not available.

  • The self-service reset page requires it if you ever need to unbind a lost contact method.

Bind a second contact method

While you can still log in, go to Security and bind a phone number or a second email address.

If your sign-in email is the only contact method on your account and you lose access to it, Webot cannot attach a new one in its place: your existing account is closed and cannot be reopened, your assets move to a new Webot account that you create, and this can take up to 60 business days.

With a second contact method bound, we remove the lost one and your account stays open.

If you have lost access to your sign-in email

Try the lookup above first. If the address itself is gone, follow the row that matches your account:

If Google Authenticator is bound and you know your password, you may be able to use the self-service reset page instead — see I can't sign in to my account and Google Authenticator is not accessible.

Want to change your sign-in email instead?

If you have not lost anything and simply want a different email on your account, do it in Security while you are logged in — unbind the old one, then bind the new one. See How to Disable SMS/Email Manually When Logged In.
