Interlinking and embedding cards

Updated over a month ago

When your processes span across different teams or topics, it’s common for related information to be documented on separate Whale Cards. Instead of duplicating content, you can connect Cards—even if they’re located in different Boards, Libraries, or Playbooks—using interlinking or embedding. This saves time, ensures consistency, and makes it easier for users to navigate related procedures.

🔗 Interlink a Whale Card

Use interlinking to reference one Card inside another, similar to hyperlinking in a document.

Step 1: Open the Card editor

Start editing the Card where you want to add the link.

Step 2: Type # and the Card title

  • Type # followed by the first few letters of the target Card’s title.

  • A dropdown will appear showing up to 10 matching Cards.

  • To narrow down results, continue typing keywords from the title.

Step 3: Select the correct Card

Click on the appropriate result to insert the interlink.

Example: Typing #onboard will show results like “Onboarding Checklist” or “Onboarding New Hires.”

Once selected, the interlink appears directly in your Card content.

🧩 Embed a Whale Card

Embedding lets you display the full content of one Card within another. This is ideal when the referenced Card needs to be read in context.

Step 1: Open the Card editor

Step 2: Use the Whalee sidebar

On the right-hand side of the editor, open Whaley.

Step 3: Search and select a Card to embed

Use the search bar to find the Card, then click to embed it.

Example: Embed the “Return Policy” Card inside a “Customer Support SOP” to show the full policy without switching views.

By using interlinking or embedding, you ensure your team always sees the most accurate and updated version of related information—without having to jump between duplicate Cards.
