Embedding GoogleDrive and Microsoft OneDrive / Sharepoint documents in a card

Updated over a month ago

Embedding a video or document inside a Whale card is a great way to provide context, enhance learning, and keep everything your team needs in one place. Whether it’s a CEO welcome message or a recording of your latest all-hands meeting, you can easily bring in content from tools your team already uses — like Google Drive, OneDrive, or SharePoint.

For quick process walkthroughs, don’t forget to use Whale’s built-in screen recorder, which lets you generate step-by-step guides from your recordings instantly.

📽️ When to Embed a Video

Here are a few popular use cases:

  • 🎤 Monthly Company Meeting

Upload your Zoom recording and embed it in a Monthly Meeting card so everyone can catch up asynchronously.

  • 👋 Welcome Message from Leadership

Record a personal welcome from your CEO and embed it in your “Welcome to Company X” onboarding card.

These videos offer a personal, human touch — while keeping your documentation dynamic and engaging.

Step 2: Click the Cloud Attachment Icon

✅ That’s it! Your file is now visible and playable within the card.

🔗 Embedding from Microsoft SharePoint

SharePoint requires a slightly different method using the Whaley iFrame:

Step-by-Step:

  1. Open the document in SharePoint

  2. Click Embed or Get embed code

  3. Copy the embed code to your clipboard

  4. In the Whale card editor, open Whaley > iFrame

  5. Paste the embed code into the iFrame field

Now your SharePoint file will be embedded and viewable directly within the card.

Pro Tip

💡 Embedding works great for training libraries, meeting recaps, onboarding videos, and centralized updates — keeping your content interactive and accessible without needing to jump between platforms.
