Archive hides a consult from your active list while keeping it safe — you can restore it any time. Use it for finished cases, duplicates, or anything cluttering your list. Delete permanently removes the consult and all of its notes — there is no archived copy, no recycle bin, and no way to undo it. When in doubt, archive: you can always delete later, but you can't bring a deleted consult back.

How to archive a consult

From an open consult: in the toolbar above the notes, click the Archive button (the archive-box icon on the left), then click Archive in the Archive consult? confirmation. Whippet then takes you back to your dashboard.

From your consult list: open the menu (the three dots) at the end of the consult's row and choose Archive. For finding consults in the list, see Finding past consults.

You can archive or delete a consult whatever its status — including ones still transcribing or summarising, and ones showing an Error or Usage Limit badge.

Viewing and restoring archived consults

Archived consults move out of your active lists (My Consults and Practice) into the Archived tab — or Practice Archived for your practice's — at the top of the Consultations page. These archived views add an Archived column showing when each consult was archived, which is also an easy way to confirm you're looking at archived consults rather than active ones.

To restore a consult, open the menu at the end of its row in the archived view and choose Unarchive. It returns to your active list. Note that while you can archive from the toolbar or the list, Unarchive and Delete only live in the list's menu.

How to delete a consult

  1. Find the consult in any list (active or archived).

  2. Open the menu at the end of the row.

  3. Choose Delete (shown in red).

  4. A Delete consult? confirmation warns that this permanently deletes the consult and all of its notes, and cannot be undone. Click Delete to confirm, or Cancel to back out.

If something goes wrong

  • Nothing happens after you click Archive or Delete, and the buttons are greyed out. The action is still in progress — the dialog won't close until it finishes. Wait a moment.

  • You see "Failed to archive consult", "Failed to unarchive consult", or "Failed to delete consult". The action didn't go through, usually a temporary connection issue. Close the message and try again.

  • You see "Failed to archive consult. Please try again." inside the consult. This is the error shown when archiving from the consult toolbar. Try again; if it keeps failing, archive from the list instead.

  • You can't find a consult you archived. Check the Archived tab (for your own) or Practice Archived (for the practice). If the list says No consults found., you may be on the wrong tab.

What this doesn't do (yet)

  • Bulk archive or delete. You act on one consult at a time.

  • Delete from inside an open consult. The consult toolbar only offers Archive — deleting is done from the list's actions menu.

  • Restore a deleted consult. Deletion is permanent. Only archived consults can be brought back.
