Why it matters

Message variables let you automatically include personalized details like contact names, company names, or other custom fields in your messages. This improves engagement, professionalism, and efficiency—especially when sending messages at scale through campaigns.

Key Concepts

Message Variable: A placeholder that automatically fills in specific contact information (e.g., Contact Name, Company Name) when a message is sent.

Message Editor: The text box used to compose messages in a conversation or campaign.

Personalization: The process of tailoring your messages using contact-specific details for better communication.

Step-by-Step: Use Message Variables in the Editor

  1. Go to your Omnichannel Inbox.

Click this link to open it directly.

  2. Select a conversation.

Choose the conversation where you want to insert message variables.

Tip: You can also use variables when creating campaigns to send personalized messages to multiple contacts at once.

  3. Click the Variable icon.

In the message editor, click the Variable icon to open a list of available variables.

  4. Select your variables.

Choose the variables you want to include in your message—for example:

    • Contact Name

    • Company Name

    • Custom variables created for your organization

  5. Compose your message.

The selected variables will appear in your message as placeholders (e.g., {ContactName}).

  6. Send your message.

When you click Send, Whippy automatically replaces each variable with the correct contact data, sending a fully personalized message.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Use message variables to personalize messages in both Inbox conversations and campaigns.

  • Double-check that all variables have corresponding data before sending; empty fields may appear as blanks in your message.

  • Combine variables with templates for fast, consistent personalization.

  • Keep personalization relevant—avoid overusing variables in short messages.
