Use Custom Domains for Link Tracking
Use a branded subdomain for tracked links instead of the default Whippy domain.
Why it matters
By default, Whippy uses its own domain to generate tracked links automatically. You can optionally use your own custom domain to create branded links. This improves trust, increases click-through rates, and keeps your messaging consistent across campaigns and messages.
Key Concepts
Default tracking domain: The Whippy-owned domain used when no custom domain is selected.
Custom domain: A domain you add or purchase in Whippy and configure for link tracking.
Subdomain: A domain like links.yourcompany.com or sms.yourcompany.com (recommended for tracking links).
Branded links: Links that use your company’s domain instead of a generic domain.
Domain selection: Choosing which domain Whippy uses when generating tracked links.
Links configuration: Required setup that enables a domain to be used for link tracking.

Allows overrides at the campaign or sequence level
Controls how links appear to recipients
Default vs Custom Domains
Using the Default Whippy Domain
No setup required
Works automatically
Uses a Whippy-owned domain
Best for quick setup or testing
Using a Custom Domain
Requires setup and configuration
Uses your branded domain (for example, links.yourcompany.com)
Improves trust and click-through rates
Recommended for production use
Requirements for Custom Domains
To use a custom domain for link tracking:
The domain must be added or purchased in Whippy
The domain must be configured for Links (not just email)
The domain must be active and verified
The domain should be a subdomain (not your root domain)
What Happens if a Domain Is Not Properly Configured
The selected domain may not be used in the final link
Whippy may fall back to the default tracking domain
Links will still work but will not appear branded
In some cases, tracking behavior may not apply as expected
Tips and Best Practices
Use a subdomain such as links.yourcompany.com or sms.yourcompany.com
Do not use your root domain (for example, yourcompany.com)
Set a default domain at the organization level for consistency
Use campaign or sequence overrides only when needed
Ensure your domain is configured for Links, not just Emails
Test links after setup to confirm the correct domain is used
Troubleshooting
