How to Use Customer Tags with Discount Groups in Wholesale Pricing Now

Understand how customer tags work in Wholesale Pricing Now and how to correctly assign them in Shopify to control discount access.

Updated today

🧷 What are customer tags used for?

In the Wholesale Pricing Now (WPN) app, customer tags are used to control access to specific discount groups. When a customer has a matching tag in their Shopify profile, they will be eligible for the corresponding discount group.

For example, if you create a discount group called VIP-Customers, only customers with the VIP-Customers tag in their Shopify profile will see the discounts associated with that group.

🛑 Can WPN create customer tags automatically?

No — the WPN app does not create or manage customer tags within your Shopify store.

All customer tags must be created manually in the Shopify Admin > Customers section.

✅ How to use a newly named discount group as a tag:

If you rename a discount group (e.g., from VIP to VIP-Customers), this does not automatically create or update a matching customer tag. You must go to your Shopify Customers, search for the customer(s), and manually add the new tag (VIP-Customers) to their profile.

📝 Tip for managing tag-based access:

  • Double-check that the tag name in the WPN discount group exactly matches the tag you apply to the customer.

  • Tags are case-sensitive and must match exactly.

  • You can assign multiple tags to a customer if they should qualify for multiple discount groups.

🧪 Still not seeing the tag appear in the app?

If the tag doesn’t show up when assigning it inside the WPN interface:

  • Make sure it already exists in Shopify’s Customers section.

  • If it’s brand new, try refreshing the app interface after saving it in Shopify.
