Keeping your Wickie account secure: two-factor authentication and passwords

In this article, you'll learn how to manage your 2FA method and change your Wickie password

Written by Marius Wickie Support

Every Wickie account uses 2FA by default

Two-factor authentication (2FA) means that logging in takes two things: something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone). Even if someone learns your password, they cannot reach your account without the second step.

You do not need to switch 2FA on. Every Wickie account has it enabled from the moment it is created. What you can choose is the method.

Choosing your 2FA method

SMS. Codes are sent as a text message to your registered phone number. It works reliably and requires no setup.

Google Authenticator. Codes are generated inside an app on your phone. Many customers prefer this method because it is quicker in daily use, works without mobile signal — useful when travelling or roaming — and does not depend on your mobile network delivering a message on time.

Both methods protect your account. If you use Wickie often, or travel with a different SIM, the authenticator app tends to be the more convenient of the two.

Refreshing your password

We suggest reviewing your Wickie password roughly every 90 days. Two things matter more than the timing, though:

  • Use a password that exists nowhere else. Reused passwords are the single most common way accounts are lost. If your Wickie password protects any other account, change it now rather than in 90 days.

  • Make it long. Length defends better than complexity. A memorable string of four or five unrelated words beats a short password full of symbols.

A password manager handles both points for you and removes the need to remember anything.

How to change your password

On the app

  1. Log in to your Wickie account in the app.

  2. Tap Explore.

  3. Find Security & privacy and tap it.

  4. Tap Change password.

  5. Enter your current password, then your new password.

  6. Tap Change password to confirm.

On the web platform

  1. Log in to your Wickie account at wickie.io.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Open Security.

  4. Next to Change password, click Change.

  5. Enter your current password, then your new password.

  6. Click Change password to confirm.

You will stay logged in on the device you used to make the change. If you are signed in elsewhere, log in again there with your new password.

Two things Wickie will never ask you for

Knowing this makes most attempted fraud easy to spot:

  • Your password. No one at Wickie will ever ask for it, by email, phone, chat or any other channel.

  • Your 2FA code. Codes are for you to enter yourself, on the Wickie app or website. Anyone asking you to read one out or forward it is trying to get into your account.

If you receive a message claiming to be from Wickie and something feels wrong, do not act on it. Forward it to support@wickie.io and we will confirm whether it came from us.
