Segments are essentially saved views based on a specific filter or multiple filters (e.g., all new urgent samples, completed samples, all samples from a particular sender) that, once saved, can be used in daily work.
Types of Segments
Segments can be predefined or user-defined i.e. personalized.
Shared segments are system segments and cannot be changed or deleted.
We will discuss them immediately.
Personal segments are segments that you can add, change, and delete as a user of WizardLab, and these segments are visible only to you when you are logged into your account.
Shared Segments
In the top left corner, you will notice a list of segments (pre-saved filters) that you can select.
The initial segment is "All Samples," and when this segment is selected, you see all samples in any status in your lab.
Note: Exception may be if, for example, you do not see verified samples because you do not have permission to see verified samples in the system.
With this view, you also have other system-saved segments that you cannot change or delete.
So if we click on the arrow next to "All Samples," the list of all segments opens.
Now if we want to see only samples that are new, simply select the segment "New Samples" from the dropdown list.
When we do that, only new samples are displayed.
The selection process is the same for samples in progress, approved, and completed, etc.
Personal Segments
You can create a user segment when you want to save some filters that you often use, so you can always use them later.
For example, you want to see only today's new urgent samples on the work list.
We will show this in 2 steps:
1. Create customer filters
2. Save them as a segment
Create filters
First, we select the "Sample State" filter and choose New.
After that, we add a new filter "Urgency" and select Urgent.
Now we have filtered the work list as we wanted.
Now we proceed to save it as a segment of the work list.
2. Saving the worklist segment
When we have created the filter that suits us and that we want to use later, we go to the "Additional Options" icon and save it by clicking on "+ Add as New Segment".
After that, we enter the name of our personal segment in the input field and whether we want to save it as a share segment or a personal one. We will select the personal segment option
When we save the segment under the appropriate name, you will notice that we are immediately on that segment, and by clicking on the dropdown list of segments, you see that now, along with predefined segments by sample status, we have our new segment that no one of our colleagues will see except us.
Additionally, we can mark this new segment as our favorite. By doing this, our worklist will be segmented like this as default every time we log in to our account.
Modifying and Deleting Segments
As we have already mentioned, we can only modify and delete segments that we have added as our personal segments.
So if, for example, we want to add another filter to the segment we just added, we can do so by first selecting the segment we just saved.
Then, for example, we add the "Sample Type" filter and select Serum.
Now, when we go to "Additional Options" we have the options:
- Add as a new segment: we save the segment under a new name as new segment
- Save the segment change: we only modify this existing segment
- Delete the selected segment: clicking here deletes this segment
For this example, we will select "Save the segment change".
