WizardLab provides four formats of reference values for analyses:
Numerical
Codeable
Microbiology
Text
When adding a new analysis, this option is selected in the "Result Type" section
The choice of the result type depends on the specific analysis. Let's briefly go through each of these formats:
Numerical
The numerical reference value is best used for analyses where the reference interval falls within a range.
When this type of reference value is selected, you can proceed to configure conditions and other settings.
You will need to set up the following three elements:
Facts
Interpretations
Display on report
Facts
In this section, you input the age and gender for which the reference value applies.
Age can be configured in years or days, and the value is entered accordingly.
For example, you can define an age range of 0–18 years, and select one or more genders to which this reference value will apply.
Note: If no conditions are specified (age or gender), the reference interval will apply to all entered subjects (patients).
After defining age and gender, you can proceed to the interpretation section.
Interpretation
In the interpretation section, you enter operators (greater, less, equal, range, etc.) and values for the analysis.
The available operators are:
<
less than<=
less than or equal to>
greater than>=
greater than or equal to=
equal to-
range
For each defined value, you can also select a corresponding flag, which will be displayed both in the processing and reporting stages.
Available flags include:
LL (critical low value)
L (low value)
N (normal range)
H (high value)
HH (critical high value)
POS (positive value)
NEG (negative value)
E (equivocal value)
ND (not detected value)
A (abnormal value)
AA (critical abnormal value)
! ( pay extra attention)
Example configuration:
Critical Low (LL): 0–2
Low (L): 2–4
Normal (N): 4–8
High (H): 8–12
Critical High (HH): 12–20
Display on report
Finally, you need to set how the reference value will appear in the report.
For example, since the normal range is between 4 and 8, you can specify that only this range is displayed in the report.
This successfully sets the reference interval for this analysis, for male and female genders aged 0–18 years.
To add a reference value for adult males, you would create a new condition, selecting the age range 18–120 years and male gender only.
Then, set the new reference interval to a range of 6–12. Values below 6 would be flagged as (L), and values above 12 as (H). For the range 6–12, no flag would be displayed in the report.
You can add as many reference intervals as needed, depending on the requirements. The process remains the same.
Codeable
For analyses requiring descriptive results, select "Codeable" as the result type.
Once selected, you can add descriptive reference values below the analysis.
You need to input:
Analysis Results – Define predefined descriptive results, and assign corresponding flags (e.g., NEG for "Negative," POS for "Positive").
Display on order and report – Specify what will be displayed as the reference value in the processing and reporting stages.
Example configuration:
Negative Result: Flagged as NEG
Positive Result: Flagged as POS
Enter the negative result first. Then, to add a positive result with the flag POS, click "Add a Descriptive Result." And for the positive results, we will add the "!" flag.
After adding both results, specify in the report display that the normal (correct) result is "Negative."
In the processing stage, you will have these two descriptive results available, with the reference value displayed as "Negative."
Microbiological
Choose this type for microbiological analyses that may require identifying isolated pathogens and antibiograms.
When adding an analysis, simply select "Microbiological" as the result type.
You can then add one or more descriptive or microbiological results by clicking the button below.
The process of adding a microbiological result type is same as for codeable result type, only here you don't add "Display on order and report".
Also, for this kind of result, when it's a result with a flag, you will be able to add an antibiogram for the pathogen, bacteria found in sample.
Textual
Some analyses may require complex results that cannot be accommodated in a simple field.
In such cases, select "Textual" as the result type.
This allows the result to be entered in a large field or text editor, or a predefined result/comment can be selected.
During processing, you can enter free-text results or select one of the predefined templates, as with predefined comments.
For analyses with this result type, templates (predefined results) can be defined within the administration of the analysis.
