How to use AI to create a job description

This article explains how employers can use the Workinitiatives AI job description feature to generate a draft job summary and job description when creating a job ad.

We're pleased to announce that we're one of the first Job platforms to be using AI in our product.

What is the AI job description feature?

Workinitiatives includes an AI-powered job advertisement writer to help employers create job ads faster.

The AI feature can generate a draft Job Summary and Job Description based on the information you provide in the job ad form.

This feature can help you create a draft job ad in minutes. There is no cost to use the AI job description feature.

Before you start

Before using the AI job description feature, start creating a new job ad and complete the Job information section.

The AI feature works best when you provide key job details first, including:

Field

Why it helps the AI

Job title

Helps the AI understand the role you are advertising

Category

Helps match the role to the correct industry or occupation group

Sub category

Gives the AI more specific role context

Search job location

Helps tailor the job ad to the location

Work type

Helps describe whether the role is full-time, part-time, casual, or another work type

Salary type

Helps explain how the salary is displayed

Salary range

Helps candidates understand the expected pay range

You can also select an ANZSCO code if one is suggested or required for your job ad.

How to use AI when creating a job ad

1. Enter the job information

Start creating your job ad and complete the Job information section.

Enter the Job title first.

Then complete as many of the supporting fields as possible, such as:

  • Category

  • Sub category

  • Search job location

  • ANZSCO code, if applicable

  • Work type

  • Salary type

  • Salary range

For best results, provide at least the Job title, Category, Sub category, and Location before using AI.

2. Review the salary display

If you enter a salary range, Workinitiatives will show how the salary range will be displayed to candidates.

For example:

Salary range will be displayed as $55,000 - $65,000 Annually.

You can also choose to hide the salary by selecting Hide salary, if this option is available for your job ad.

3. Review any visa or occupation notice

Depending on the job details entered, you may see a notice about employer-sponsored visa categories and nominated wage thresholds.

This notice explains that some occupations may include caveats requiring the nominated wage, or annual earnings, to be above a certain threshold.

If this applies to your role, review the relevant occupation information before continuing.

4. Complete candidate matching preferences

Before using or continuing with the AI job ad flow, complete the Candidate matching preferences section if it appears.

This section may include:

Field

Description

Level of the role

The seniority level of the position

Level of responsibility

The level of autonomy, guidance, or responsibility required

Work experience required

The minimum and maximum experience range preferred for candidates

Driver’s licence requirement

Whether a driver’s licence is needed to perform the role

These details help describe the type of candidate you are looking for.

5. Select Try Now on the AI banner

After entering the job details, the AI banner will appear near the bottom of the page.

The banner explains that Workinitiatives offers an AI-powered job advertisement writer to help create compelling job ads faster.

Select Try Now to use the AI feature.

There is no cost to use this feature.

6. Review or edit the AI prompt

After selecting Try Now, you will be shown a prompt box.

The prompt may be automatically generated using the job information you have entered.

You can edit the prompt before generating the job description.

You may want to add details such as:

  • key responsibilities

  • required skills

  • required qualifications

  • preferred experience

  • licence requirements

  • work conditions

  • benefits

  • company information

  • shift or roster details

When you are happy with the prompt, select Generate.

7. Review the generated job summary and job description

After a few seconds, the AI will generate a draft Job Summary and Job Description.

Review the generated content carefully before continuing.

AI-generated content may contain errors, missing information, or details that do not accurately match the role.

You should edit the draft until the job ad is accurate and suitable for candidates.

8. Add candidate questions if required

Once you are happy with the job information, add any questions you want candidates to answer.

Candidate questions can help you gather more information from applicants before reviewing their applications.

9. Add the job to your Enterprise Job Board if required

If your account has an Enterprise Job Board configured, you may have the option to add the job to it.

Select this option if you want the job to appear on your Enterprise Job Board.

10. Save and continue

When you have reviewed the job information, select Save and Continue.

Then complete the remaining steps required to post your job.

Important

The AI job description feature creates a draft only.

You are responsible for reviewing and approving the final job ad before posting it.

Before publishing, check that the generated job content is:

  • accurate

  • relevant to the role

  • clear for candidates

  • free from incorrect requirements

  • aligned with the actual position

  • appropriate for the selected category, sub category, location, and work type

  • compliant with your internal hiring and advertising requirements

Do not post an AI-generated job description without reviewing it first.

Troubleshooting

The AI banner did not appear

Check that you have entered the job title and other job information.

The AI feature is most likely to appear after you complete the key job details, such as job title, category, sub category, and location.

The AI-generated job description is too generic

Edit the AI prompt and add more specific information about the role.

Include details such as responsibilities, skills, qualifications, location, work type, salary range, and required experience.

The AI-generated job description includes incorrect information

Edit or remove the incorrect information before continuing.

AI-generated content can sometimes include inaccurate or unsuitable details, so always review the job summary and job description before posting.

I do not want to use AI

You do not have to use the AI feature.

You can manually enter your own job summary and job description instead.

I cannot select an Enterprise Job Board

The Enterprise Job Board option is only available if your account has an Enterprise Job Board configured.

If you believe your account should have access to this option, contact support.

I am not sure which ANZSCO code to select

If an ANZSCO code is suggested, review the available option and choose the code that best matches the role.

If you are advertising a role for migration or sponsorship purposes, you should confirm the correct ANZSCO code and any occupation caveats before posting the job.
